RELATIVE ENTROPY AND TSALLIS ENTROPY OF TWO ACCRETIVE OPERATORS M. RAÏSSOULI1,2, M. S. MOSLEHIAN 3, AND S. FURUICHI 4 arxiv: v1 [mah.fa] 19 May 217 Absrac. Le A and B be wo accreive operaors. We firs inroduce he weighed geomeric mean of A and B ogeher wih some relaed properies. Aferwards, we define he relaive enropy as well as he Tsallis enropy of A and B. The presen definiions and heir relaed resuls exend hose already inroduced in he lieraure for posiive inverible operaors. 1. Inroducion Le H,.,. ) be a complex Hilber space and le BH) be he C -algebra of bounded linear operaors acing on H. Every A BH) can be wrien in he following form A = RA+iIA, wih RA = A+A and IA = A A. 1.1) 2 2i This is known in he lieraure as he so-called Caresian decomposiion of A, where he operaors RA and IA are he real and imaginary pars of A, respecively. As usual, if A is self-adjoin i.e. A = A ) we say ha A is posiive if Ax,x for all x H and, A is sricly posiive if A is posiive and inverible. For A,B BH) self-adjoin, we wrie A B or B A for meaning ha B A is posiive. If A,B BH) are sricly posiive and λ,1) is a real number, hen he following A λ B := 1 λ)a+λb, A! λ B := 1 λ)a 1 +λb 1) 1, A λ B := A 1/2 A 1/2 BA 1/2) λ A 1/2 1.2) are known, in he lieraure, as he λ-weighed arihmeic, λ-weighed harmonic and λ-weighed geomeric operaor means of A and B, respecively. If λ = 1/2, hey are simply denoed by A B, A!B and A B, respecively. The following inequaliies are well-known in he lieraure: A! λ B A λ B A λ B. 1.3) For more deails abou he previous operaor means, as well as some oher weighed and generalized operaor means, we refer he ineresed reader o he recen paper [12] and he relaed references cied herein. For refined and reversed inequaliies of 1.3) one can consul [6] and [7] for more informaion. Now, le A BH) be as in 1.1). We say ha A is accreive if is real par RA is sricly posiive. If A,B BH) are accreive hen so are A 1 and B 1. Furher, i is easy o see ha he se of all accreive operaors acing on H is a convex cone of BH). Consequenly, A λ B and A! λ B can be defined by he same formulas as previous whenever A,B BH) are accreive. Clearly, he relaionships A λ B = B 1 λ A, A! λ B = B! 1 λ A, A! λ B = A 1 λ B 1) 1 are also valid for any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1). However, A λ B can no bedefined by he same formula 1.2) when A,B BH) are accreive, by virue of he presence of non-ineger exponens for operaors in 1.2). For he paricular case λ = 1/2, Drury [1] defined A B via he following formula where we coninue o use he same noaion) A B = 2 A+ 1 B ) ) 1 1d. 1.4) 21 Mahemaics Subjec Classificaion. 47A63, 47A64, 46N1, 46L5. 2 2 M. RAÏSSOULI, M.S. MOSLEHIAN, S. FURUICHI I is proved in [1] ha A B = B A and A B = A 1 B 1) 1 for any accreive A,B BH). I follows ha 1.4) is equivalen o: A B = 2 A B 1) 1d = 2 A B + 1 A ) 1 B d. 1.5) In his paper we will define A λ B when he operaors A,B BH) are accreive. Some relaed operaor inequaliies are invesigaed. We also inroduce he relaive enropy and he Tsallis enropy for his class of operaors. 2. Weighed Geomeric Mean We sar his secion by saing he following definiion which is he main ool for he presen approach. Definiion 2.1. Le A,B BH) be wo accreive operaors and le λ,1). The λ-weighed geomeric mean of A and B is defined by A λ B := sinλ) λ 1 A 1 +B 1) 1 d = sinλ) In he aim o jusify our previous definiion we firs sae he following. Proposiion 2.1. The following asserions are rue: i) If A,B BH) are sricly posiive hen 2.1) coincides wih 1.2). ii) If λ = 1/2 hen 2.1) coincides wih 1.4). λ 1 A B +A ) 1 B d. 2.1) Proof. i) Assume ha A,B BH) are sricly posiive. From 2.1) i is easy o see ha A λ B = A 1/2 sinλ) λ 1 I +A 1/2 B 1 A 1/2) 1 d )A 1/2, where I denoes he ideniy operaor on H. Since A 1/2 B 1 A 1/2 is self-adjoin sricly posiive hen i is sufficien, by virue of 1.2), o show ha he following equaliy a λ = sinλ) λ 1 1+a ) 1 d holds for all real number a >. If we make he change of variables u = 1 + a) 1, he previous real inegral becomes afer simple manipulaions here he noaions B and Γ refer o he sandard bea and gamma funcions) sinλ) a λ 1 u) λ 1 u λ du = 1 sinλ) a λ B λ,1 λ ) = 1 sinλ) a λ Γλ)Γ1 λ) = 1 a λ. The proof of i) is finished. ii) Le A,B BH) be accreive. If λ = 1/2 hen 2.1) yields A B = 1 A 1 +B 1) 1 d, which, wih he change of variables u =, becomes afer simple compuaion) A B = 2 A 1 +u 2 B 1) 1 du = 2 u 1 A 1 +ub 1) 1du u. This, wih 1.5) and he fac ha A B = B A, yields he desired resul. The proof of he proposiion is compleed. From a funcional poin of view, we are allowing o sae anoher equivalen form of 2.1) which seems o be more convenien for our aim in he sequel.
MEANS OF ACCRETIVE OPERATORS 3 Lemma 2.2. For any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1), here holds A λ B = sinλ) λ 1 1 ) λ A! B ) d. 2.2) Proof. If in 2.1) we make he change of variables = u/1 u), u [,1), we obain he desired resul afer simple opics of real inegraion. Deail is simple and herefore omied here. Using he previous lemma, i is no hard o verify ha he following formula A λ B = B 1 λ A persiss for any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1). Moreover, i is clear ha R A λ B ) = RA) λ RB). AbouA! λ B we sae hefollowing lemmawhich will also beneeded in hesequel. Lemma 2.3. For any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1), i holds ha R A! λ B ) RA )! λ RB ). 2.3) Proof. Le fa) = RA 1 ) ) 1 be defined on he convex cone of accreive operaors A BH). In [1], Mahias proved ha f is operaor convex, i.e. ) f 1 λ)a+λb 1 λ)fa)+λfb). This means ha R 1 λ)a+λb ) 1 ) 1 1 λ) RA 1 ) ) 1 +λ RB 1 ) ) 1. Replacing inhis laer inequaliy A andb by heaccreive operaors A 1 andb 1, respecively, and using he fac ha he map X X 1 is operaor monoone increasing for X BH) sricly posiive, we hen deduce 2.3). We now are in a posiion o sae our firs main resul which exends Theorem 1.1 of [9]). Theorem 2.4. Le A,B BH) be accreive and λ,1). Then ) R A λ B RA) λ RB). 2.4) Proof. By 2.2) wih 2.3) we can wrie ) R A λ B = sinλ) λ 1 1 ) λr A! B ) d sinλ) which, when combined wih Proposiion 2.1, implies he desired resul. λ 1 1 ) λ RA )! RB ) d, 3. Relaive/Tsallis Operaor Enropy Le A,B BH) be sricly posiive and λ,1). The relaive operaor enropy SA B) and he Tsallis relaive operaor enropy T λ A B) were defined by SA B) := A 1/2 log A 1/2 BA 1/2) A 1/2. 3.1) T λ A B) := A λb A, 3.2) λ see [2, 3, 4] for insance. The Tsallis relaive operaor enropy is a parameric exension in he sense ha lim T λa B) = SA B). 3.3) λ For more deails abou hese operaor enropies, we refer he reader o [5] and [11] and he relaed references cied herein. Ouraiminhissecion isoexendsa B) andt λ A B) foraccreive A,B BH). Following he previous sudy we sugges ha T λ A B) can be defined by he same formula 3.2) whenever A,B BH) are accreive and so A λ B is given by 2.2). Precisely, we have
4 M. RAÏSSOULI, M.S. MOSLEHIAN, S. FURUICHI Definiion 3.1. Le A,B BH) be accreive and le λ,1). The Tsallis relaive operaor enropy of A and B is defined by T λ A B) = sinλ ) λ ) A! B A d. 3.4) λ 1 This, wih 3.2) and 2.4), immediaely yields ) ) R T λ A B) T λ RA RB for any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1). In view of 3.4), exension of SA B) can be inroduced via he following definiion where we always conserve he same noaion, for he sake of simpliciy). Definiion 3.2. Le A,B BH) be accreive. The relaive operaor enropy of A and B is defined by A! B A SA B) = d. 3.5) The following proposiion gives a jusificaion as regards he previous definiion. Proposiion 3.1. If A, B BH) are sricly posiive hen 3.5) coincides wih 3.1). Proof. Assume ha A,B BH) are sricly posiive. By 3.5), wih he definiion of A! B, i is easy o see ha ) 1 SA B) = A 1/2 1 )I +A 1/2 B 1 A 1/2 I d A 1/2. By similar argumens as hose for he proof of Proposiion 2.1, i is sufficien o show ha 1 +a 1 ) 1 1 loga = d is valid for any a >. This follows from a simple compuaion of his laer real inegral, so compleing he proof. Theorem 3.2. Le A,B BH) be accreive. Then ) R SA B) S RA RB ). 3.6) Proof. By 3.5) wih Lemma 2.3 we have R SA B) ) ) ) RA! B) RA 1 RA! RB RA = d d. This, wih Proposiion 3.1, immediaely yields 3.6). Proposiion 3.3. If A, B BH) are sricly posiive hen 3.4) coincides wih 3.2). Proof. Puing 1 = 1 s+1, 3.4) is calculaed as T λ A B) = sinλ s λ 1{ A 1 +sb 1) } 1 1+s) 1 A ds. λ For A,B >, we have and sinλ sinλ s λ 1 A 1 +sb 1) 1 ds = A λ B s λ 1 1+s) 1 ds = 1,
MEANS OF ACCRETIVE OPERATORS 5 which imply he asserion. We noe ha ii) of Proposiion 3.3 is a generalizaion of 3.3). We end his secion by saing he following remark. Remark 3.1. Analog of 1.3), for accreive A,B BH), does no persis, i.e. ) ) ) R A! λ B R A λ B R A λ B fail for some accreive A,B BH). For λ = 1/2, his was poined ou in [9] and he same argumens may be used for general λ,1). However, he following remark worh o be menioned. Remark 3.2. In [8] see Secion 3, Theorem 3), M. Lin presened an exension of he geomeric mean-arihmeic mean inequaliy A B A B from posiive marices o accreive marices called here, secor marices). By similar argumens, we can obain an analogue inequaliy beween he λ-weighed geomeric mean A λ B and he λ-weighed arihmeic mean A λ B, when A and B are secor marices. We omi he deails abou his laer poin o he reader. 4. More abou A λ B We preserve he same noaion as previous. The operaor mean A λ B enjoys more oher properies which we will discuss in his secion. For any real numbers α,β > we se α λ β = α 1 λ β λ he real λ-weighed geomeric mean of α and β. Now, he following proposiion may be saed. Proposiion 4.1. For any accreive A,B BH) and λ,1) he following equaliy holds for every real numbers α,β >. αa) λ βb) = α λ β) A λ B ) 4.1) Proof. Since A λ B = B 1 λ A i is hen sufficien o prove ha αa) λ B = α 1 λ A λ B). By equaion 2.1), we have αa) λ B = sinλ) λ 1 A 1 α +B 1) 1 sinλ) d = α λ 1 A 1 +αb 1) 1 d. If we make he change of variables u = α, and we use again 2.1), we immediaely obain he desired equaliy afer simple manipulaions. We now sae he following resul which is also of ineres. Theorem 4.2. Le A,B BH) be accreive and λ,1). Then he following inequaliy n R A λ B )) 1 n xk,x k RA ) ) n 1 xk,x k λ RB ) ) 1 xk,x k 4.2) holds rue, for any family of vecors x k ) n H. Proof. By 2.4), wih he lef-side of 1.3), we have from which we deduce R A λ B ) RA) λ RB) RA)! λ RB), R A λ B )) 1 1 λ)ra) 1 +λrb) 1. Replacing in his laer inequaliy A by A, wih > real number, and using Proposiion 4.1, we obain afer a simple manipulaion) λ R A λ B )) 1 1 λ)ra) 1 +λrb) 1.
6 M. RAÏSSOULI, M.S. MOSLEHIAN, S. FURUICHI This means ha, for any x H and >, we have λ R A λ B )) 1 x,x 1 λ) RA) 1 x,x +λ RB) 1 x,x, and so n λ R A λ B )) 1 xk,x k 1 λ) n RA) 1 x k,x k +λ n RB) 1 x k,x k, 4.3) holds for any x k ) n H and >. If x k = for each k = 1,2,...,n hen 4.2) is an equaliy. Assume ha x k for some k = 1,2,...,n. If we ake n R A λ B )) 1 1/1 λ) xk,x k = n > RB) 1 x k,x k in 4.3) and we compue and reduce, we immediaely obain he desired inequaliy. Deail is very simple and herefore omied here. As a consequence of he previous heorem, we obain he following. Corollary 4.3. Le A,B and λ be as above. Then R A λ B )) 1 ) 1 RA 1 λ RB ) 1 λ, 4.4) where, for any T BH), T := sup x =1 Tx is he usual norm of BH). Proof. Follows from 4.2) wih n = 1 and he fac ha whenever T BH) is a posiive operaor. T := sup Tx = sup Tx,x x =1 x =1 I is ineresing o see wheher 4.4) holds for any uniarily invarian norm. Theorem 4.2 gives an inequaliy abou RA λ B) ) 1. The following resul gives anoher inequaliy bu involving RA λ B). Theorem 4.4. Le A,B and λ be as in Theorem 4.2. Then ) 2 Re x,x R A λ B ) x,x ) RA ) 1 x,x λ RB ) ) 1 x,x for all x,x H Proof. Following [13], for any T BH) sricly posiive he following equaliy { } T 1 x,x = sup 2Re x,x Tx,x x H is valid for all x H. This, wih 4.2) for n = 1, immediaely implies ha 2Re x,x R A λ B ) x,x + RA ) 1 x,x λ RB ) 1 x,x holds for all x,x H. In his laer inequaliy we can, of course, replace x by x for any real number, for obaining 4.5) 2Re x,x 2 R A λ B ) x,x + RA ) 1 x,x λ RB ) 1 x,x. 4.6) If x = he inequaliy 4.5) is obviously an equaliy. We hen assume ha x. If in inequaliy 4.6) we ake Re x,x = RA λ B)x,x hen we obain, afer all reducion, he desired inequaliy 4.5), so complees he proof.
