4 2015 GM #22 HAMILTON AT MONTRÉAL GAME NOTES CFL NOTES & TRENDS The Canadian Football League Other than two significant interruptions to support Canadian war-time efforts, the Canadian Football League and its direct predecessors/divisions (the IRFU and the WIFU) have been in operation continuously since Today s CFL East Division has provided over 100 years of football in Canada, while the West Division has been in operation since The January 19, 1958 establishment of the CFL itself with a unified game in the East and West, continued that history and overall since the IRFU began back in 1907 this will be regular season game #: 5, CFL TRENDS & HIGHLIGHTS THROUGH WEEK #3: 2015 Converts Rule Change Tracking: CFL Convert attempt results through the first three weeks of 2015 (Week #3): CONVERTS UPDATE Att Made Pct ONE-POINT (32 yds) TWO-POINT (3 yds) CONVERT SELECTION: TD 1-Pt 2-Pt 2-POINT DETAILS: Att Made Pct Total Touchdowns * REGULATION Less: O/T Mandatory OVERTIME In Regulation Time: % attempted by type 75% 25% Note: No convert attempted in BC s OT win over Saskatchewan The following analysis is drawn in part from the CFL s internal weekly review of the status of our game with the idea to extract those trends and highlights that are most influential in the 2015 season: 1. Scoring & Net Offence: - Continues to be high in 2015 at 53.5 points per game after a week in which the games averaged 55.8 points with a total 19 offensive TDs being scored. Defences contribute to this as well as they have already scored 9 TDs this season, on pace for a record-shattering 61 scores. The CFL all-time record is only 43 in one season (2004). - Net offence is maintaining the improvement over 2014 and at 712 yards per game, 9% higher than 2014 and the best since The key to the resurgent CFL offensive game is that teams are converting on 2nd downs FAR better than in 2014 at 50.5% vs 42.2%. The 50.5% mark is the highest the CFL has ever had since this key result was first tracked in Penalties: - Are now at 28.5 per game after a week (#3) at 27.5 per game. By week the CFL per game averages are: Week #1: 30.0, Week #2: 28.0, Week #3: 27.5 per game. - So Penalties are dropping slightly each week but there has not been a game under 22 calls yet as standards are enforced. Last season, 31 of 81 games (38%) had under 20 penalties. - Preventable fouls such as Offside and Procedure continue to dominate and this broad category accounts for 45% of all flags. Preventable fouls are up 20% over 2014, while Roughness calls are down 29%. Technical fouls such as DPI, Illegal Contact and Illegal Interference are up 35% over CFL Rosters: - Through Week #3, a total of 88 players made their debut getting into their first CFL game. Of the 544 total players on club rosters, the 88 total represents 16% of the league. That is much lower than 2014 however when a record 226 first-year players entered the CFL.

5 2015 GM #22 HAMILTON AT MONTRÉAL GAME NOTES CFL NOTES & TRENDS 1. CFL TRENDS & HIGHLIGHTS THROUGH WEEK #3: 4. Close Games & Standings: - Three of last week's games were decided by 5 points or less and for the year 7 of 12 (58%) have been as close at that. That 58% rate is unprecedented and the equivalent figure for 2014 was only 29% decided by 5 points or less. - The average margin of victory has dropped to just 10.0 points, the lowest gap in some time. - Only one team is yet to win a game and no team has more than two so far. Saskatchewan is 0-3 but their three losses are by a combined 9 points. It is the first time in 33 years (1982) they have lost three in a row by 4 points or less. - Saskatchewan's back-to-back OT losses is only the third time in CFL history that has ever happened (BC twice: 1991 & 2010). 5. CFL Passing: - As of Week #3 there are SIX quarterbacks with a passer rating over 100. Last year there were NONE. - Last year in the CFL there were only THREE 1,000-yard receivers. In 2015, the CFL is on pace for Teams are opting more frequently for shorter, safer passes and the result is an overall completion % of 68.2%. That is FAR above the all-time record for any CFL season of 63.4% (2012). - The proof of this trend assertion is that on average in 2014 passes were competed 5.4 yards downfield. That equivalent number in 2015 is now only 4.5 yards downfield. That is a MAJOR change to the way the CFL game is being played and potentially a reaction to the defensive domination of A real key, and one that has reduced the number of two-and-outs by 23% over 2014, are completed passes on 2nd down to extend series. CFL Quarterbacks have completed 162 2nd down passes for first downs in the first 12 games or 13.5 per game. The equivalent figure in 2014 was 10.7 second down conversion completions per game a 26% increase in 2015! 6. QB Depth: - All of the above is happening with FOUR #1 QBs injured long-term (Ray, Reilly, Crompton, Durant). Fortunately CFL clubs have developed backup QBs that have stepped up with a major impact in 2015 (T.Harris, R.Cato, GK.lenn and M.Nichols) - Clubs are protecting the QB much better than last year and this is allowing for more time to pick out secondary receivers (and creating much of the above). See note below about sacks. 7. Defence: - Sacks are WAY down at 4.0 per game, the lowest average per game in 13 years (2002). - Defences are scoring however as there have been 8 interception return TDs, on pace for 54 which would far exceed the record 27 in one year.

The Als excel even more in the individual categories as at once (through Week #3), they own the CFL s Top receiver (S.J. Green), Top rusher (Tyrell Sutton), Sacks Leader (John Bowman) and Combined yards leader (Stefan Logan). Bowman also has one of the CFL s two blocked kicks this year to lead in that area.
