Professor Guo s brief biography and contributions to atmospheric sciences in the several decades with his hard work are summarized on the basis of his more than 70 representative papers selected by the authors. His main creative and leading achievements introduced include the theory of dynamic instability in the atmosphere theories of the for2 mation of the general circulation and the large scale thermally driven circulation dynamic theories of mesoscale convection and vortex and low latit ude and t ropical dynamics. The parameterization schemes for p hysical pro2 cesses in numerical models developed by Prof. Guo and the results of the numerical modeling of topographic dy2 namic and thermal effects of the Tibetan Plateau on weather and climate are also introduced. It is evidently seen f rom t hose int roductions t hat Prof. Guo made superexcellent cont ributions to at mosp heric sciences and educa2 tion. Prof. Guo is our model from whom we his posterity can learn a lot of things. May Prof. Guo rest in peace! Key words : Guo Xiaolan ( Kuo Xiao Lan) At mosp heric dynamics Physical parameterization schemes Numerical modeling Tibetan Plateau.
