In the experiment with the SPHINX spectrometer in a new baryon state X(2) Σ K + was observed in the proton diffractive reactions p+n(c) Σ K + +N(C). The main parameters of X(2) + baryon are M = 1986 ± 6MeV,Γ = 98 ± 21MeV. Unsal featres of massive X(2) state (narrow decay width Γ.5, anomalosly large branching ratio with strange particle emission) M make it serios candidate for cryptoexotic pentaqark baryon with hidden strangeness. New data on the SPHINX with by an order of magnitde enlarge statistics are in agreement with previos data and are spported or conclsions. We propose frther stdies X(2) baryon prodction in the meson reactions with baryon exchange: π ± +p X(2) + +π ± (OZI - forbidden sppressed reaction for the state qqqs s ) 1 Introdction and K ± +p X(2) + +K ± (OZI - allowed reaction). If the vale of R = BR[π± +p X(2) + +π ± ] BR[K ± +p X(2) + +K ± ] 1 it will be the crcial argment in favor of X(2) = qqqs s ) strctre. These experiments may be done on IHEP separated kaon beam with OKA spectrometer. PACS Mk Gleball and nonstandard mlti-qark/glon states Rm Limits on prodction of particles c Baryons h Ncleon-indced reactions In the experiments with SPHINX spectrometer an extensive program of stdying diffractive prodction proton reactions on ncleons and nclei (coherent processes) was carried ot on the secondary proton beam of IHEP accelerator with energy E P = 7GeV and intensity I P = (2 4) 1 6 p/spill.the main aimofthis programis the search for cryptoexotic baryons with hidden strangeness qqqs s (here q=- or d-qarks). This program was discssed in detail in the review papers [1, 2, 3]. These searches were performed primarily in the glon-enriched Pomeron exchange diffractive prodction reactions. According to modern ideas, the main component of a Pomeron is sort of glon ladder, which can provide for Pomeron processes a special role in prodction of exotic hadrons (Fig. 1). Of significant interest are coherent diffractive processes taking place on the ncles as a whole. We shall deal with these processes with more detail and discss method for identification of them. Consider a diffractive prodction of a certain set of secondary particles, for example p+a [abc]+a, which can proceed coherently on the ncles A. For identification of a coherent processes we consider the distribtion of events for the reaction of interest over the sqare of transverse momentm P 2 T. In accordance with the ncertainty principle a coherent processproceedingonanclesas awholeis characterizedby relatively small transverse momenta P T inversely proportional to the radis of the target ncles R = cons A 1 3. A coherent process manifests itself as a narrow diffractive peak in the distribtion of events over PT 2 (see below). Coherent processes serve as a certain filter that permits more clear identification of the prodced resonances R a+b+c with respect of non-resonance mltiparticle backgrond. In the case of mltiparticle events the probability of secondary interactions in the ncles exceeds the respective probability for resonances. Secondary interactions violate the condition of coherence. Therefore, in the case of coherent events the non-resonance backgrond can be significantly redced with respect to the resonance effects. These argments are qalitatively illstrated by the diagrams depicted in Fig. 2. The experiment for stdying diffractive prodction reaction were carried ot on the SPHINX spectrometer. This mltiprpose facility incldes wide apertre magnetic spectrometer with proportional chambers, drift tbes and hodoscopes, hodoscopical electromagnetic spectrometer with lead-glass conters, Cherenkov detectors for identification of secondary particles, the gard system for separation of exclsive diffractive-like reactions. Old and completely pgraded SPHINX spectrometer had the same general strctre. Bt after pgrade the facility was eqipped with a new tracking system, new hodoscopes, hadron calorimeter, new electronics, DAQ and on-line compters (which increase the maximal available flx of data per spill more than by order of magnitde). As a reslt of the pgrade, we have obtained a practically new setp, which is described in [19, 2]. With the pgraded setp dring the rns more than 1 9 events were recorded on magnetic tapes. This statistics now sed to stdy different physical processes. First reslt of these stdies are pblished in [2, 21, 22]. Fig. 1. Schematic illstration of sppression of the nonresonance mltiparticle backgrond with respect to the prodction of a resonance in the coherent reactions (the so-called coherent filter). p+(ncles) R+(ncles),R a+b+c (reaction involving prodction and cascade decay of resonance R), and p+(ncles) [a+b+c]+(ncles) (non-resonance mltiparticle backgrond). Mltiparticle states interact in the ncles with a higher probability and violate the condition of coherence more strongly than in case of a resonance R (σ represent the interaction cross section of secondary particles inside the ncles). Therefore, the following relationship holds valid for the cross section of the processes at isse : σ noncoh (reson.) σ noncoh (nonres.backgr.) σ coh (reson.) σ coh (nonres.backgr.) > Coherent processes on nclei act like a filter in making the identification of hadron resonances more nambigos. 2 The main reslt for X(2) baryon obtained in the first generation of experiments with the SPHINX detector. The most important reslt obtained in the first generation of experiments with the SPHINX spectrometer is observation of new X(2) baryon in the reaction p+n(c) X(2)+N(C) (1) Σ K + ;Σ Λγ; This reslt was obtained in stdying the reaction p+n(c) [Σ K + ]+N(C) (2) (see ref. 4 4 L.G. Landsberg: On the natre of new baryon state X(2) In the diffractive coherent reaction (2) was also observed the peak X(181) Σ K + with M = 187±7MeV and Γ = 62±19MeV.Thisstateisprodcedonlyintheregion of very small P 2 T (<.1.2GeV 2 - see Fig.5). We will not consider possible interpretation of this near threshold peak here. This strctre needs special investigation. Very important property of X(2) baryon is its large probability of the decays with strange particles in the final state.inthestdyoftheeffectivemassspectram(pπ + π ) and M( (1232) ++ π ) in the reactions p+n(c) pπ + π +N(C) (6) (1232) ++ π +N(C) In the same kinematical conditions as in (1) the state X(2) was not observed and lower limits of the corresponding branchings were obtained R1 = BR[X(2)+ (ΣK) + ] BR[X(2) + ( π) + ] >.83, R2 = BR[X(2)+ (ΣK) + ] BR[X(2) + pπ + > 7.8 (7) π ] (with 95% C.L.). We also observed the decay X(2) + Σ + K [18]. ThesedataareinagreementwithmainresltX(2) + Σ K + inspiteoflimitedstatisticsforx(2) + Σ + K. It is reasonable also to mention that in the reaction Σ + N [Σ K + ]K + N with P Σ 6GeV in the SE- LEX experiment the state with M = 1962±12MeV and Γ = 96±32MeV (near the vale of the corresponding parameter of X(2)) was observed in the mass spectrm M(Σ K + ) - see [2, 3]. 3 The experiment with the pgraded SPHINX spectrometer. New stdy of reactions p+n(c) [ΣK]+N(C) were carried ot with the pgraded SPHINX spectrometer. X(2) baryon was observed in this stdy on the statistics which more than by one order of magnitde exceeded the statistics on or previos work [17]. Now we are in the final stage of the data analysis and preparation of new reslts for pblication. Or preliminary conclsion is that new reslts are in good agreement with previos data. 4 The natre of X(2) baryon and its interpretation as cryptoexotic state with hidden strangeness X(2) = qqqs s. The main characteristics of X(2) baryon: 4.1 The new baryon state X(2) is prodced in the SPHINX experiment in glon-enriched diffractive prodction reactions with Pomeron exchange p+n(c) X(2)++N(C) (8) Σ K + ;Σ Λγ Σ + K ;Σ + pπ ;nπ + inthe regionofall PT 2, aswellasin the coherentdiffractive reaction on carbon ncles in the region PT 2 <.1GeV De to proton diffractive prodction of X(2) baryon its isotopic spin mst be I = 1 2 and the most probable set of qantm nmbers is J P = ; 3 2 ; 5+ 2 ; 7 2 ;... It mst be stressed that X(2) has a large one mass with a small enogh width (Γ/M.5). In the same time all well known ordinary isobars qqq with close masses have large widths Γ > 3 5MeV (see [23] and Table 1). 4.4 The X(2) state has been experimentally shown to decay mainly via channels involving the emission of strange particles R = BR[X(2) ΣK] BR[X(2) pπ + π 1 (9), (1232)π] whilethedecaysx(2) pπ + π, (1232)πarestrongly sppressed (by two order of magnitde) - see [23] and Table 1. Ths the X(2) baryon exhibit anomalos dynamical properties that can not be explained if it is interpreted as ordinary qqq baryon. Bt all these anomalies can be readily explained if this state is assmed to be a cryptoexotic pentaqark baryon with hidden strangeness qqqs s. It mst be specified more exactly that when we mention ordinary baryon having the strctre qqq, or exotic baryon qqqs s, or hybrid qqqg, we actally mean only those hadronic components that determine their principal characteristics (qantm nmbers, main dynamical properties). They are called valence qarks and glons. Any hadron also contains a qark-glon sea of virtal glons and qark-antiqark pairs emitted and absorbed by the valence strctre elements. The qark-glon sea determines many hadron properties (sch as, for example, the spacial distribtion of electric charges and magnetic moments inside the particles). In the region of large distances compared with the dimensions of hadron (i.e. in the region of small enogh PT 2 ) they may behave like system composed of valence qarks. When stdies of phenomena of relatively large transverse momentm (small distances) are performed (i.e. when the strctre of hadron is investigated) manifestations of qark-glon

Therefore when we speak of the complex qark or qark-glon strctre of cryptoexotic baryons, we actally mean the valence composition of these particles which determines their qantm nmbers and their dynamical properties that are displayed at large distances (decay width, branching ratios of decay channels, mechanisms of particle prodction and so on). The stdy of anomalos dynamical properties of X(2) baryon and its interpretation as possible pentaqark baryon with hidden strangeness is performed with help of OZI selection rle, or the selection rle relative to continos qark lines [24]. In accordance with OZI rle in the allowed processes the qark lines of the respective diagrams depicting one or another process are continos. Processes involving annihilation or creation of qark-antiqark pairs entering into composition of the same hadron are strongly sppressed. The OZI rle sppression factors in different reactions are in the region of f [25]. As itisseenfromfig.7thedecaysof qqqs s pentaqarkwith the emission of strange particles is OZI allowed, bt the decay qqqs s (1232)π,pπ + π - are OZI forbidden and ths are strongly sppressed. This makes it possible to explain, why in the case of exotic baryons with hidden strangeness, the decays via channels with strange particles provide to be large and even to be dominant. Moreover, in the case of allowed decays qqqs s ΣK owing to relatively large mass of the particles, the kinetic energy released in the decay trns ot to be significantly lower than in the decay qqqs s (1232)π. This kinematical factor, as well as more complex internal strctre of the exotic baryons may significantly redced its d s s d s s } Σ = d s > } K + = s > (a) } ++ (1232) = > (b) } π = ū d > Fig. 7. Diagrams for decays of exotic baryons with hidden strangeness qqqs s :(a) allowed by OZI rle(decays with emission of strange particles) (b) forbidden by OZI rle (decays with emission of non-strange particles) total decay width. Ths, anomalos properties of X(2) baryon make it a strong candidate for cryptoexotic pentaqark baryon with hidden strangeness.
6 6 L.G. Landsberg: On the natre of new baryon state X(2) N/2 MeV 3 N/2 MeV Fig. 8. Diagrams for the reaction K/π +p φ+λ,y/n 5 1 I am clearly nderstand that observation of even strong candidate for for cryptoexotics by some indirect dynamical properties do not allow one to claim nambigosly that this state is really a new cryptoexotic form of hadronic matter. May be it still possible to find another interpretation of these anomalos properties. This is general problem not only for the X(2) baryon, bt for all known meson and baryon candidates for cryptoexotics (for example, for the candidate to hybrid meson π(18) [26]). In all these cases we need additional stdies and new argments. Ths, let s to try to direct the way for ftre stdy of X(2) baryon to prodce new information for the natre of this hadron. Certainly, we mst determine its qantm nmbers and to investigate another decay channels. Bt it seems that the decisive argments will be obtained in the stdies of different mechanisms for X(2) prodction. Let s remain first of all some data for the prodction of well known φ - meson with hidden strangeness ( φ s s ) in the pion and kaon beams in reactions M(K + K - ), GeV M(K + K - ), GeV Fig. 9. The data for M(K + K ) and separation of φ-meson in : (a) OZI - forbidden reaction π + p φ + n; (b) OZI - allowed reaction K +p φ+y; and π +p φ+n (1) Fig. 1. Reaction K ± +p X(2)+K ± for X = ds s K +p φ+y (11) As seen from the diagrams in Fig. 8 the φ prodction in (1) is OZI forbidden and strongly sppressed and in (11) is OZI allowed. From the experimental data of [25] for M(K + K ) mass spectra in reaction (1) and (11) at P π;k = 32.5GeV (Fig. 9 and Fig.1), it is seen that ratio of cross sections is σ(π +p φ+n) σ(k +p φ+y) 1 2 (12) (the crosssection σ(π +p φ+n) Pπ =32.5GeV = 11.5± 3.3nbn) We propose to se the same technic of stdying the hidden strangeness in the valent qark system of hadrons for X(2) baryon in the reactions with baryon exchange (backward scattering) and π ± +p X(2)++π ± (13) K ± +p X(2) + +K ± (14) If X(2) baryon is really pentaqark state with hidden strangeness ( X(2) = qqqs s ), the reaction (13) are OZI forbidden and strongly sppressed and the reaction (14) is OZI allowed (see diagrams in Fig. 11 and Fig. 1). Ths, in this case it is possible to expect that the ratio of cross sections is σ(π ± +p X(2) + +π ± ) σ(k ± +p X(2) + +K ± ) 1 (15)
7 L.G. Landsberg: On the natre of new baryon state X(2) 7 Fig. 11. Reaction π ± +p X(2)+pi ± for X = ds s May be the ratio (15) is not too small as for φ - meson, bt significantly enogh to obtain the definite conclsion abot the hidden strangeness of X(2) baryon. Sch experiment is of crcial importance for pentaqark interpretation of X(2) baryon. The experimental stdies of reaction (13) and (14) with baryon exchange can be performed with the new OKA experiment on the IHEP kaon separated beam with momenta 12.5 and 17 GeV [27, 28]. This momentm region seems to be optimal for stdying baryon exchange processes as a compromise between the drop of cross section of these reactions with energy and the increasing of the efficiency for their registration.
