2 YWLA House System Everyone belongs to a YWLA House. Think Harry Potter but with a YWLA twist. There are six YWLA Houses. This years House focus is on having FUN and BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS.

3 Altruismo Word Meaning: Altruismo means giving in Portuguese. Country: Brazil Color: Black Symbolism found in the crest: The color black represents the ability to empower others. The heart symbolizes kindness, purity and generosity. The griffin is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle s talons as its front feet. Griffins are powerful, majestic and protective guardians. Their claws have medicinal properties and one of their feathers can restore sight to the blind. The diamond shield symbolizes the importance of protecting others with unity and strength. The snakes are a representation of Ilha da Queimada Grande (Snake Island) just off the coast of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The golden lancehead pit viper thrives on the island with an estimated one snake per square meter. Humans are not legally permitted on the island without special permission from the Brazilian government. The snakes are a creative life force-- often symbols of rebirth, transformation and immortality. The daisy symbolizes purity and innocence. The coffee represents sociability, friendship and affection.

Country: Spain Color: Red Symbolism found in crest: According to ancient legend the flesh of the peacock is incapable of decay, thus we have the immortal peacock. It represents the spirit of awakening of the hearts desire to love, honor and protect a friend. Images of the immortal peacock can often be found in art--including Fra Angelio and Fra Filippo Lippi s c.1440 painting of the Adoration of the Magi. Shaking hands forming a heart is a symbol of friendship and love. The castle is the foundation of the community which displays power and protection. The pineapple is a welcoming symbol of friendship and hospitality. The egg s symbolism for the crest comes from Salvador Dali s interpretation of the egg in his painting Metamorphosis of Narcissus as a symbol of hope and rebirth. The key is the gateway to unlocking a true friendship.

5 Isibinidi Word Meaning: Isibindi is a Zulu word meaning courage. Country: South Africa Color: Green Symbolism found in the Crest: The shape of the Isibindi crest is reminiscent of the Zulu shield, and its revolutionary leader Shaka, known as Shaka Zulu. The lion is the king of the jungle and represents courage. The muted swan is symbolic of the Zulu leadership style astute, compelling, and unwavering. The triangle is the only shape used in the Zulu beading tradition. It is significant because it shows your status in life and will change over time. 6 Lao Tong Word Meaning: Lao Tong is Mandarin word meaning kindred spirits. It is a type of relationship within Chinese culture (Hunan) that bonded two girls together for eternity as kindred sisters. Country: China Color: Orange Symbolism found in the Crest: The color orange indicates change, adaptability, spontaneity, and strengthens concentration. The lotus flower is symbolic of purity and beauty because it is clean and pure appearance rising from the muddy, murky water. In China, the tiger is considered the king of all beasts (not the lion) and represents powerful energy. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, typhoons and floods. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it. 7 Nukumori Word Meaning: Nukumori is Japanese for fervor with warmth and passion. Country: Japan Color: Purple Symbolism found in the Crest: Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. It is associated with royalty, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, independence, and magic. The phoenix is a mystical bird that dies and is reborn across cultures and throughout time. The torii gate is found at the entrance of Shinto shrines and symbolizes the transition from the ordinary and mundane to the divine and holy. Cherry blossoms bloom in the spring and represent renewal and the cycle of death, birth and life. In Japan the key is symbolic of happiness and prosperity for it opens the lock to the rice pantry. Lao Tong is written in Mandarin at the top of the crest.

8 Reveur Word Meaning: Reveur is French for dreamer. Country: France Color: Blue Symbolism found in the Crest: The color blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. (Color Wheel Pro: Color Meaning) The unicorn represents infinite possibilities and the ability to see these possibilities (think DREAMS). It has the ability to give a person the eyes to see these possibilities and the wisdom to take advantage of them. A magical animal, if you summon the power of the unicorn it will give you the blessing to be a success in whatever dreams you choose to pursue. The unicorn is able to pass through all boundaries, has the gift to see past all illusions until the truth is revealed, and will help manifest dreams to reality. The crescent moon is pre-eminently associated with female deities (Artemis/Diana, Isis, Virgin Mary, Virgin of Guadalupe, Shiva). It is associated with mystery, intuition, and the powers of the unconscious, symbolizing openness and concentration. Also-- Ron Clark likes to point out that the wolf howls at the moon and will often make a howling noise to celebrate this house. The eye gives us the ability to see. It also represents intelligence, light, vigilance, moral conscience and truth. The oak leaves and acorns stand for power, authority and victory. They also represent family.
