1 Dr Dariusz Wanatowski Personal Details Head of Department of Civil Engineering, Associate Professor in Geomechanics Qualifications MSc Eng (Civil), PhD (Geotechnical), PGCHE, MASCE, FHEA Contact Room 311 Science and Engineering Building 199 Taikang East Road Ningbo China +86 (0) Short Biography I graduated in 1999 with MSc in Civil Engineering from Poznan University of Technology in Poland. From 1999 to 2002 I worked at the same university as Research and Teaching Assistant. After that I moved to Singapore and obtained my PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Prior to joining the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG) in 2006 I also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at NTU in Singapore on the effects of strength and stiffness anisotropy of geomaterials on the stability and deformation of tunnels. In January 2013, I moved to The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) as Head of Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. My I research interests are mainly focused on experimental geomechanics, particularly strain softening and instability behaviour of granular soils, strain localization in sands, strength and stiffness anisotropy of geomaterials, and effects of intermediate principal stress on the strength and deformation characteristics of soils. In recent years I have also developed research interest in rock mechanics and mining engineering, in particular, the behaviour of soft coal measures. Professional Activities Professional Societies Member, Technical Committee on Stability of Natural Slopes (TC208), International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Member, Technical Committee on Coastal and River Disaster Mitigation and Rehabilitation (TC303), International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Fellow, Higher Education Academy, UK, 2012-present Honorary Secretary, ICE East Midlands Geotechnical Group, UK, Member, Polish Geotechnical Society, 2008-present. Member, Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society, 2004-present. Member, British Geotechnical Association, 2006-present. Member, International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, present. Member, American Society of Civil Engineers, 2006-present. Peer Review/Editorial Services
