Date: 4 th December 2015 Time: 9:00 am 12:00 noon Duration: 3 hours PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BEGIN THIS EXAMINATION Instructions to Candidates 1. This paper has five (5) pages and five (5) questions. 2. Each question is worth 25 marks. You are required to answer any four (4) questions. Key Examination Protocol 1. You are a GIS consultant who is required to develop a functional GIS to manage a forest reserve area which includes several stands of various types of tree species as well as trails and camping grounds for recreational use. Explain how you would go about collecting data for your project. Identify three (3) sources of data for your GIS. Explain your rationale for selecting your data sources. Give three (3) limitations to your data collection methods. (10 marks) b. You have decided to use remote sensing to generate several of your data layers for the project (specifically Landsat imagery). Identify three (3) limitations of this method and explain how you would use another type of remote sensing to overcome these limitations. (7 marks) c. ArcGIS is the primary GIS software used globally and designed by ESRI. List the three (3) license levels of ArcGIS as well as three of the modules within the ArcGIS software suite. d.
