2 TEACHING EXPERIENCE Responsible for the development of the green and environmental chemistry concentration within the chemistry major at WSU. Responsible for the development of three courses at WSU o CH 335: Green Chemistry This course will provide an understanding of the fundamentals of green chemical design that either eliminates or reduces the use or generation of hazardous substances o CH 330: Environmental Toxicology Topics include the pharmacological and biochemical properties of toxins and the effects of toxins on human health, including assessment of risk(s). o CH 336: Green and Environmental Lab Laboratory experiments will demonstrate principles of green chemistry and include topics in environmental sampling, analysis and toxicology Regularly teach the following courses o CH 120: General Chemistry I o CH 121: General Chemistry II o CH 112: Survey of Chemistry o CH 320: Environmental Chemistry o CH 210: Chemical Analysis: An introduction to modern methods RESEARCH INTERESTS My research interests are broadly in the field of green chemistry and more specifically in the area of greener solvents for processes and environmental remediation. I work with a class of non-volatile and non-flammable solvents termed ionic liquids. I am interested in the role of water in modifying solvent properties and properties of mixtures as well. As part of my sabbatical I investigated the life cycle of these solvents as applied to cellulose processing. Much of my research is designed to facilitate undergraduate participation.
