The target application rate was 650 ft 2 /gal. The edges and back of the board were covered with aluminium foil and low emitting foil tape to expose the painted surface only. 7 5.3 Description of the applied test method Test Chamber The test chamber is made of stainless steel. A multi-step air clean-up is performed before loading the chamber, and a blank check of the empty chamber is performed. The operating parameters are 23 C, 50% relative air humidity in the supply air. Chamber operations followed ISO and ASTM D5116 and D6670 (internal method nos. 124 and 125) VOC Emissions Testing - Sampling, Desorption, Analysis The emissions of organic compounds, except low molecular weight aldehydes were tested by drawing air samples from the chamber outlet through Tenax TA tubes. Analyses were done by thermal desorption and gas chromatography / mass spectroscopy (TO-17/ISO , internal method no.: 122). All single substances were identified if the concentration exceeded 2 µg/m³. Quantification was done with the respective response factor and characteristic mass ion fragment. All non-identified substances were quantified as toluene equivalent if greater than 2 µg/m³ Testing of Aldehydes The presence of aldehydes was tested by drawing air samples from the chamber outlet through DNPHcoated silica-gel tubes. Analysis was done by solvent desorption, HPLC and UV-/diode array detection (TO-11A/ASTM D5197/ISO , internal method no.: 11). The absence of formaldehyde and/or acetaldehyde was stated if the specific wavelength UV detector response was lacking at the specific retention time in the chromatogram. Concentrations above the reporting limit of 2 µg/m³ were reported as positive detections Calculation of the Results In order to calculate the concentrations in an office building or a classroom, the loading parameters in CDPH SMv1.1Tables were used in the following formula: C Calculated SER n A V A Unit representation Classroom Office parameters parameters SER A Area specific emission rate, µg/(m 2 h) As tested As tested A Wall area, m n air exchange, h V Volume of room, m Quality assurance Before loading the chamber, a blank check of the empty chamber was performed and compliance with background concentrations in accordance with ISO was determined. Sampling at the chamber outlet and subsequent analysis was performed in duplicate. Sampling for aldehydes was also conducted using a DNPH-coated silica gel tube. In each sequence, stability of analytical systems was monitored and verified using NIST traceable calibration standards Accreditation The testing methods described above are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by AClass (no.
