1 FRASER COAST BROMELIAD SOCIETY INC. NEWSLETTER Volume 13 Issue 3 25 th March 2017 Office Bearers Contact Details President: Roger Robertson Phone: Secretary: Sue Loughran sueloughran1@bigpond.com Phone: Mobile: Treasurer: Janine Blaber giles.blaber@optus.com.au Phone Mobile: Vice President: Godfrey Loughran sueloughran1@bigpond.com Phone: Mobile: Editor: Phone: Mobile: Purchasing Officer: Roger Robertson Phone: Hello everyone and welcome to our new committee, we need to thank Roger for stepping up and accepting the nomination of President without one we wouldn t have a Society. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Judy Caldwell who has resigned her position as editor of our newsletter. Judy has been with the society since it was established and has done such a wonderful job as editor so thanks once again Judy. So we are looking for somebody to take up this position please. Well our next meeting is at the Botanical Gardens and is a sausage sizzle and a tidy up of the bromeliad garden. If you didn t put your name down and are coming please give me a call on so I can include you in the sausage sizzle. Have you put your name down for the bus trip to the Sunny Broms Conference on April 1 st, the bus leaves Stockland at 5am, stopping at Dundathu, Maryborough and Tiaro. It will be an amazing day and you will see Bromeliads that have been imported over the last few years and to be released for the first time. Over the past year there has been some work reclassifying genera. This long-expected List (attached) is of genera changes in BCR entries as a result of the Barfuss et al DNA Studies Paper in Oct. 2016please take note with 9 newly-created genera from the Barfuss Paper (attached list by Derek Butcher), plus 9 new bigeneric genera names listed here by my List to accommodate the reclassifications through baseline species names and hybrids thereof, changing genus. Below is a shorten version compiled by Derek Butcher for you all to look at and start using the new names. Also the list compiled by Geoff Lawn a big thankyou to both these people for all their work Committee Members: Gayle Barnes John Hoffmann Narelle Hoffmann Maxine O Shea F.C.B.S. Inc.
