Collection Information Abstract : Print-outs and photocopies of clippings relating to the 1905 railroad accident at Baker Bridge which killed and injured many passengers. Historical/Biographical Notes The Montreal Express, consisting of two locomotives, four baggage cars, a sleeper, and four coaches collided with the rear of the Marlboro Local, consisting of one locomotive, three coaches, and one combination car, in the evening of November 26, 1905, resulting in 17 deaths and at least 30 people injured. The collision occurred just after the local had stopped at the Baker Bridge Station, and a short distance to the west of the station. The accident was caused primarily by inadequate safety rules on the Boston & Maine line, and secondarily because of lapses by railroad personnel. Scope and Content The collection comprises a computer print-out of a bibliography of newspaper clippings of the accidents, and photocopies or print-outs of the clippings.
