College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 2013-2014 I. SIGNIFICANT TRENDS: In the 2012-2013 catalog cycle, the College of Liberal Arts and Science has gained several new and revised curricula: The Department of History reorganized its graduate majors, with a discontinuation of the Ph.D. in History of Technology and Science, and a re-naming of the graduate major in Agricultural History and Rural Studies (Ph.D.) to the graduate major in Rural, Agricultural, Technical, and Environmental History. The Greenlee School of Journalism and Mass Communications developed a Bachelor Degree in Public Relations (B.S.). The LAS College also saw the development of a revised and expanded curriculum in leadership with the establishment of courses in Community Leadership and Policy Studies (CLPS) coordinated by the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women in Politics, including several new courses and expanded opportunities in the Certificate in Leadership program The LAS curriculum as a whole is the most disciplinarily diverse assemblage of curricula and courses at Iowa State University, and includes many of the core, general education disciplines required for virtually all undergraduate students at the University. The development of several new courses throughout the curricula and the removal of a significant number of courses that have not been recently taught have improved the breadth and presentation of course offerings from the 40+ majors and degree programs available through the College.
