INDIANAMAP VIEWING APPLICATION (VERSION 1.0 ) Based on the 2005 Developed for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security by:

IndianaMap Viewing Application Introduction The IndianaMap Viewing Application DVD contains map-data and software for viewing and creating custom maps of your community. The IndianaMap is a high-quality base map being built cooperatively by local, state, and federal government, universities and businesses. The creation of the IndianaMap is in progress. When complete, government, policy makers, and the public will have a consistent foundation for decision-making. When you first view the data from this DVD, a group of base map layers are automatically displayed over the orthophotography. Many other map layers are included that can be turned on or off. The map-data on this DVD is a sampling of the types of geographic information important to Indiana s past, present and future. You are invited you to explore your community through these maps. With the AccuGlobe viewing software, you can view and print the maps. Advanced users can analyze the maps to answer questions, and even add more and/or better map-data that is available. You can turn on/off and save any combination of layers you like. Please note that the visibility of some layers depends on your current view scale (see the AccuGlobe HELP file to learn how to control these and other settings). We install the application with the following layers turned on: Boundaries-County Names Location-County Seats Transportation-Major Highways Transportation-Interstates Page:4

Transportation-US and State Highways Transportation-State and County Highways Transportation-Roads Water-Lakes and Ponds Water-Major Rivers Water-Rivers Boundaries-Cities and Towns Boundaries-State Boundary Boundaries-Townships Boundaries-County Lines Orthophotography-Township Mosaics IndianaMap Viewing Application Why don t the map layers line up? The map layers don t always line up because they were created by different organizations using different sources and are of different quality. The map layers on this DVD are the best available but in many cases the maps need to be improved. The goal of the IndianaMap is to create One Map for Indiana as a single high-quality base map for all people and organizations. With a common base map, the other map layers will line up in the future. A consistent high-quality base map will enable better decisionmaking. It will save lives by better supporting emergency response. And it will save tax payer dollars by building it once and using it many times. How do I get more information? Each map layer contained on this DVD comes with detailed documentation in standardized format defined by the Federal Geographic Data Committee. That documentation is called metadata. You can find the metadata in the..\documentation\metadata\ folder. The IndianaMap Viewer was produced for every county in Indiana. If you need information about another Hoosier community, you can request the IndianaMap View for that county through your public library circulation desk. For more information about the IndianaMap, visit www.indianamap.org. The IndianaMap is an initiative of the Indiana Geographic Information Council, www.igic.org. Links to more data can be found on the IGIC web site. *Distribution of the IndianaMap Viewing Application is made possible through a grant from the AT&T Foundation. **AccuGlobe TM Mapping software released under special agreement with DDTI, Inc.
