Reasons: Decline in Agriculture Privatization is increased IT increased Opportunities in second and third sector. 7. Why do you appreciate the role of rivers in a country's development? A: I Appreciate the rivers in countries development because Rivers provide water to humans as a basic natural resource water is essential for human and industrial activities. Rivers and their alluvial soils provide agricultural lands. River deltas are granary of the country. River valleys are densely populated and compact settlements. Rivers provide easy and cheap in land water transport. They provide drinking water to cities and towns. 8. Due to the difference in sex ratio, what would the impact on society? SECTION III 10. Which are the major Physiographic divisions of India? Contrast the relief of the Himalayan region with that of the Peninsular plateau? A: India is divided into six major physiographic divisions. They are... 1) The Himalayas 2) The Indo - Gangetic plain 3) The Peninsular plateau 4) The Coastal plains 5) The Thar desert 6) The Islands Differences between Peninsular plateau and the Himalayan region. The Himalayan region The Himalayas are young untold mountains. These mountain ranges are parallelly arranged. The Peninsular region The Peninsular are of relict type. These are subjected to extensive denudation. These plateaus have been dissected by rivers and vertical movements of the earth. Himalayas are covered with snow and glaciers. These are composed of sedimentary rocks which have been folded. Q. Distinguish between Population growth and Population change? We can't see glaciers or snowfall in this region. It is generally of crystalline rocks which have seen many cycles of granite and metamorphism. A: Population growth Population change Increase in the number of people who inhabit a state. The difference between birth rate and death rate in a given year is called population growth rate. It is expressed in percentage. Change in the number of people during the specific time. Population change is the number of people added to the total population in a year. It is expressed in the addition of number Growth rate was 2.14% per year as per of people. A positive number means the population has census 1991. It has declined to 1.93% per year in 2001. increased by that number. A negative number shows it has decreased by that number.

11. Do these two statements mean the same thing? Justify your answer. a) People have different developmental goals. b) People have conflicting developmental goals. A: Both the statements do not mean the same thing. People seek different things which can fulfil their aspirations or desires, thus different development goals. In fact at times, two persons or group of persons may seek things which are conflicting. So the developmental goals are always not conflicting so, it is wrong to say both are correct at the same time. Read the following lines and answer the question. 'The retreat of the monsoons is marked by clear skies and rise in temperature. The land is still moist owing to the conditions of high temperature and humidity. The weather becomes rather oppressive. This is commonly known as October heat'. Q. What are the character features of retreating monsoon? A: The main characteristics of retreating monsoon: The retreating monsoons are in the months of October and November. During these months low monsoon trough becomes weak and is replaced by high pressure. Thus monsoon begins to retreat. It is the period of transition from hot rainy season to cold winter season. It is marked by clear sky, moist ground and high temperatures giving birth to October heat. The weather becomes rather oppressive. Low pressure shifts to Bay of bengal. They give rise to cyclonic depressions. 12. 'The importance of the service sector is going on increasing day by day'. Do you support this statement? Why? A: Yes, I support the statement that the importance of the service sector is going on increasing day by day. Though service sector does not produce goods. It strengthens the needs, requirements of other two sectors. The basic services like community, social personal services, finance, insurance and real estate, trade hotels, transport and communication are very essential and provide wide range of employment opportunities. It has a large share of GDP. It led to path of progress and shows the sign of modernization. Q. Should ground water be considered a common pool resource? Explain your view. A: For resources like water, the consumption by one person or a sector affects what is available to others. In a number of states, the answer to falling water tables has been not to address the issue itself. Apart from this each person wants their share of water before some one else. This is the real contemporary challenge.

So ground water should be considered a common pool resource. Based on this the laws and rules to water usage should be framed. It should be made that drinking water is the first priority and a human right. Panchayat institutions must have control over the use of ground water. 13. Locate the following places in an outline map of India. A: 1) Kolleru lake 2) Sahyadri Mountains 3) Indira Point 4) The Luni river A2 Western Ghatts Sahyadri Mountains Luni A4 A1 Kolleru lake Indira Point A3
