What does sound travel through? Instructions 1. Firstly, ask an adult to help you make a small hole in the base of each cup with a sharp tool. 2. Secondly, thread one end of the string through one cup and tie a knot in it. Then do the same in the other cup. 3. Soon after, ask a friend to hold a cup and walk away from you and ask them to hold their cups to their ears. Does the sound travel along each of the strings? 4. Next, pull the string until it is tight and speak quietly into the phone. As your friend is speaking, hold the other cup next to your ear. Introduction Sound travels through the air (which is a gas) and this is usually how the sounds we hear come into our ears. Will sound also travel through solid things like string? In this experiment you can make a simple telephone and find out more about what does sound travel through. 5. After that, move closer to your friend and try to talk again when the string is not pulled tight. Does your telephone work as well? 6. Finally, ask two more friends to join you and make another telephone. Link the strings together to make a cross in the centre and pull the strings tight. Speak into your cup and ask your friend to hold their cups onto to their ears. Our experiment worked only because the sound vibrates through the string so you can hear on the other side. We could hear because the string is pulled tight. If you loosen the string, you won t hear properly at all because the sound waves are dissipating (becoming more faint)! for dolphins and whales Some sea creatures like dolphins (or wales) sends sound waves through many miles of the ocean. They can do this because sound travels so well through water, faster in fact than it does through air.

Introduction Orange Group Red Group Green Group Purple Group Black Group Hearing a heartbeat Our experiment is hearing a heartbeat. Our aim is to be able to hear each other s heartbeat. We think children who are aged 3 to 6 will like this because they can play doctors with it. So, before you start this experiment you should take your jumper or cardigan off or it might not work. Also, you might have to do some exercise otherwise you might not be able to hear your heartbeat. The purpose of this experiment is to be able to make a child s stethoscope. Our advice is to keep the stethoscope straight. We hope you enjoyed making it!!we hope you made it in the correct way!!!! Funnel Hosepipe Sticky Tape Instructions: In this picture we were trying out our experiment. 1. First, attach the funnel to the hosepipe using sticky tape. 2. Next, take your jumper off if you have one and do some exercise to get your heart beating fast and loud. Hose pipe Sticky tape Funnel 3. Following that, place the funnel side to the location of your heart and the hosepipe next to your ear. 4. Finally you can hear a heartbeat! Our Experiment is about Hearing a Heartbeat. The name of our experiment is called a Stethoscope. The reason our school-made Stethoscope works is because the sound waves from the heart are vibrating vigorously (energetic and forceful). Our heart is beating more expeditious than a leopard. These sound waves travel down the hosepipe and to your ear. The Stethoscope would not work if the waves from the hear could not pass through the skin and it will disturb the air.

Introduction: Bouncing Sounds! The purpose of this experiment is to make children learn all about sound with this simple experiment. This experiment is aimed at children aged 6 to 12. This experiment only requires a paper card and a tin tray. We hope you like this fantastic experiment. Our experiment is bouncing sounds and this is how it works. Bouncing sounds has been tested and it works perfectly. In our opinion children will love it because they can bounce sounds around. This exciting experiment causes, children to love science and learn about sound. Tell your parents about what happened. If you can, make a different experiment about sound using the materials that we used (for that check the instruction). Speak to the tube quietly and the person will hear you. The sound waves travel through the tube then the sound wave bounces off the metal tray. The sound waves can then be heard down the other tube. First, roll the two pieces paper into two tubes. 2. Next, secure the rolls with tape. 3. After that, put the tubes together in a V shape on the table. 4. Afterwards, put the metal tray in front of the two tubes. 5. Then talk into the tubes. 6. Finally, tell your friend to put his/her ear on their tube. What did they hear? What did you find out?

Seeing Sound A small glass bowl We were shouting on the bowl and the rice started to vibrate. A balloon I N T R O D U C T I O N Elastic band /sticky tape Uncooked rice This is our result. Balloon pump Instructions 1. To begin with, blow up the balloon or use a balloon pump to a medium size. 2. After that, stretch the balloon over the opening of the bowl. 3. Next, place about ten pieces of uncooked rice on top of the bowl. 4. Finally, shout on the rice and you will see the rice move. This is because sound waves come out of our mouths and this causes the plastic to vibrate. Secondly, the rice vibrates because the plastic is vibrating. What did you find out and why did it happen?

Introduction: High & Low This experiment is called High Low. We think children from 6-12 would love it because you can make your own band. It is fun to make with friends. You can decorate it with ribbons and stickers. Plastic pipes Hacksaw Sticky tape Ribbon to decorate Instructions: Did you know some animals can hear higher pitched sounds than we can? When you blow into the pan-pipes the sound waves will create high and low pitched sounds. In South America people play a musical instrument called the pan-pipes.as a result, you have to be in quiet place to hear the tune. 1. Firstly, use the hacksaw to cut the five pipes one longer than the other. 2. Next, put the pipes from longest to shortest and make sure the bottoms of the pipes are equal. 3. After that, use the stiicky tape to stick the pipes together. 4. Finally, you may decorate your very own pan-pipe and enjoy playing with it.
