INTRODUCTION The Adams G. Adams Papers--Addition span the period 1929-1968, although much of the material is largely concentrated in the years 1940-1968. This collection is comprised of two donations: one, dated 1970, from Mr. Adam G. Adams, Coral Gables, Florida; the second, dated 1981 from Mr. Alfred T. Adams of Nashville, Tennessee. The collection occupies 5.4 cubic feet of shelf space, and numbers 3,250 items. There are no restrictions on the collection, and single photocopies of unpublished writings in the Adam G. Adams Papers-- Addition may be made for purposes of scholarly or individual research. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The Adam G. Adams Papers--Addition, containing approximately 3,250 items, span the period 1929-1968, although the bulk is largely concentrated in the years 1940-1968. The collection is composed of account books, cards, certificates, clippings, correspondence, genealogies, photographs, writings, and several miscellaneous items. The mass of the collection is composed of correspondence. The most interesting being the lively communications between the Adams brothers. The seven brothers are Adam G. Adams (known as Lep ), Morton Adams, Marion S. Adams (known as Maon ), Howell E. Adams, David P. Adams, Alfred T. Adams, and George Elliott Adams. This correspondence provides important genealogical information and interesting commentaries on politics and society. Adam G. Adams was one of the early leaders in the formation of the South Florida Historical Society and this involvement is reflected in the correspondence. The other items in the collection are not of as great an importance as the correspondence, although the newspaper clippings provide additional information on the Adams family. A scrapbook included a calling card signed by Sarah Polk, wife of President James Knox Polk. The value of the Adam G. Adams Papers--Addition reside in the large amount of correspondence between the various family members. It provides important historical and biographical information concerning this prominent family.
