DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY Microbiology Programme: Bachelor of Science (Honours) Microbiology Philosophy Microbiology is simply a natural science that deals with the study of microbes: their structure, forms and function. Microbiology covers almost all aspects of life. Like botany, aspects of microbiology include: Medical Microbiology Environment Microbiology Microbial Genetics Bacteriology Virology Industrial /Food Microbiology Objectives It is envisaged that the Department of Microbiology will provide certain practical services such as microbiology culture collection center and environment protection laboratory. Apart from the obvious economic and social impacts that would accrue from such ventures they will also serve as training ground for our graduates. Indeed, the overall objective is to produce microbiologists that will make useful contributions to industry, medicine, teaching and research on graduation. 100 Level LIST OF COURSES GNS 101 Use of Library 2 C BIO 101 Basic Principles of Biology 3 C BOT 101 Diversity of Plants 3 C CHM 101 General Chemistry 1 4 C MAT 171 Elementary Mathematics 1 2 C ZOO 101 Diversity of Animals 3 C PHY 101 General Physics I 3 E PHY 103 Basic Heat 2 E PHY 105 Experimental Physics l 2 E GNS 102 Use of English 2 C 1
