Divergence Theorem and Its Application in Characterizing Fluid Flow Let v be the velocity of flow of a fluid element and ρ(x, y, z, t) be the mass density of fluid at a point (x, y, z) at time t. Thus, q = ρv represents a vector in the direction of flow with magnitude equal to the mass flow rate per unit area.
