ECDC overview ECDC The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), is the European Union agency with the responsibility of strengthening EU defences against infectious diseases. ECDC's mission: To identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health posed by infectious diseases. To support and help to coordinate EU countries preparedness and response capacities.

GIS infrastructure at ECDC Enterprise GIS ECDC had a GIS departmental structure that served the needs of the particular sections/teams, instead of the entire organization as an entity; This GIS solution did not allow to get access to timely, accurate & guaranteed geospatial information.
ECDC Mapping & Multilayer Analysis (EMMA) Started in May 2011; Took over the recommendations included in the GIS Needs Assessment report (June 2010); Was planned as a centralized GIS platform to support disease mapping, data analysis & data sharing among ECDC experts & to extranet public, which will facilitate the communication on public health threats; This system will contribute to the compilation of standardized spatial data; Its implementation will be supported by the establishment of internal SOPs.

Open questions On which aspects organizations such as ECDC must be fully compliant with INSPIRE directive? In which situations we need to comply with INSPIRE directive?, only for public available data? Is there any kind of external assessment for the implementation of INSPIRE directive?
