V C O S N E W S L E T T E R Ventura County Orchid Society Affiliate of the AMERICAN ORCHID SOCIETY Volume 29 Issue 7 July 2017 July Program: Tillandsias Speaker: Jerry Robinson Jerry Robinson is a much appreciated and sought after speaker and continues to be a VCOS favorite. Rainforest Flora, Inc. (RFI) was formed in 1976 by Paul T. Isley III., Jerold A. Robinson and William Harris. Rainforest Flora, Inc. offers the greatest variety, the largest number, and the highest quality of Tillandsia Air Plants in North America and the World. They are dedicated to the growing and sale of quality Tillandsia Air Plants to both our wholesale and retail customers. RFI is also the oldest Tillandsia Air Plant nursery in America. Tillandsia is what we do! Rainforest Flora, Inc. made a commitment in the early 1980's to become self sufficient in the production of Tillandsias. Since the plants take anywhere from six to twenty years to mature from seeds, this was no small undertaking. The amount of financial sacrifice and total dedication to this task was a stiff price to pay that no one who has not gone through it can fully appreciate. We are most proud and yet humble to say that since 1993, Rainforest Flora, Inc. has been completely self sufficient in the production and distribution of Tillandsias. July 25th, 2017 (Tuesday) Meeting The Ventura County Orchid Society (VCOS) will meet on Tuesday, July 25th. President s Message and... Dear Members, I hope you are preparing your plants for the Ventura County Fair display, August 2-13. This is our chance to show the community what we do and hopefully create interest in our society. We are in need of finding ways to get better publicity for our meetings and sales. The Ventura County Star no longer allows us to advertise our meetings. We do have a website and facebook page, but if you have any other sources, let a member of the board of officers know. They are listed in the directory and this newsletter. If you have not received the VCOS Directory for 2017, let me know, I have extras. If you have extra orchid supplies you are not going to use, let me know. This will help out our members and clean out space for you to have more orchids. ELLIE WEST has 1 gallon pots free, but need cleaning. Contact Ellie at 805-642-8810. Don't forget to sign up for Cal Orchid Picnic and Tour on Sunday, August 13. Jean Everett, VCOS President VCOS Library Don't forget we have a fabulous library of Orchid books that can be checked out from our Librarian, Nancy Tristan. The listing of books is in the directory.
