Fill in the Blank Directions: Fill in each blank with the correct vocabulary term from the list. Use each term once. deposit erosion igneous metamorphic minerals resources rocks rock cycle sedimentary weathering On Friday, my class went on a field trip to a local park. We looked at the different rocks and found in the area. My teacher said there are many kinds of rocks. Most of the rocks at the park were rocks, so they were easy to break apart. These rocks are made when wind and water minerals in layers. Over time, these layers press together to form rocks. Wind and water also cause rocks to change shape or size, which is a process called. We saw an example of this at the park. A tree root had grown in a rock and cracked it. This is different from, which moves rocks and soil to a new place. 5 1 We also learned about other rocks. One type was called. These rocks form when hot magma or lava cools. The last type of rock we learned about was. These rocks started out as one of the other rock types but 7 changed when they experienced extreme heat and pressure. The marble statue in the park was an example of this type of rock. 2 4 3 6 All rocks can go through the as they change from one type of rock to another. We learned a lot about rocks, and that it is important to use Earth s natural wisely, because some of them are in limited supply. Minerals 9 and are important for the way we live and play. I thought this trip rocked! 10 8
