o 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. NKJV o Ephesians 2:1-2 o 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, NKJV When you get saved, one war ends, but another war begins. We are stepping into the flow of this world. Ex. As a Jesus disciple you become an adversary to Satan. A battle for your life begins. It s like the German immigrants who came to America in the 1930 s and who had been aligned with Hitler and the 3 rd Reich and made a choice to leave Germany and the values of Germany and gave an oath to being Americans. They went from allies to adversaries. Many of them fought for America against the Germans Names of Satan describe his character: Satan means adversary Lucifer-day star; son of the morning; Accuser, Apollyon-the destroyer, murderer; Beelzebul-lord of the houses of bondage; Belial-worthless one; Old Serpent; Father of lies Tempter; Roaring Lion; Dragon; Destroyer; Devourer of men 2 of 6
Deceiver Demons have been given Satan s authority and power Vs. 9 he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. This passage gives us insight into the character of demons: Rev. 12:7-10 V. 7 and 9 They are fallen unconfined angels (spiritual beings) that rebelled with Satan V. 7 They oppose God s work in every way, they are the foot soldiers of Satan V. 8 They have been kicked out of heaven and driven to the earth. They are the hierarchy of Satan on the earth. Ephesians 6:12, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. V. 9 They deceive the world: satan s workers set out to do wickedness on the earth, in the Fourth Dimension, the spiritual dimension V.9 Their habitation is now on the earth working in the sons of men to steal, kill, and destroy our lives V. 10 They accuse, tempt, and say lies about us. Demons are Satan s foot soldiers and they are the one s that harass us Mark 5:1-4 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. NKJV Demons find power through inhabiting men Demons are unclean they work through uncleanliness in one s life Strong and powerful More strong than the average man. There is often the need for intervention from an anointed Spirit empowered saint to set one free And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. Demons bring harm to people they can cause one to go insane, lose emotional stability, have physical problems We see demons causing people to be blind and mute, Matthew 12:22: Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. So demons can cause physical maladies like blindness and muteness There evidently are deaf and dumb spirits 4 of 6
But when they were cast out this person could see and speak!! In Matt 17:15 we read about a father who brings his epileptic son to Jesus: A father to Jesus about his son, Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him. 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 1 These demons had caused epilepsy and other physical problems that were harming this young man This was a high level spirit that the disciples could not cast out Ex. I once walked into a situation with a Navy Captain where I could not cast out the demon Vs. 6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. What s interesting is that this man could still run to Jesus, worship Jesus, experience the presence of Jesus But he could not set himself free. This man needed Jesus. This man needed to be delivered We often need someone to enter into our situation and set us free from demonic powers ruling over us And he cried out with a loud voice and said, What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Demons recognize Jesus and they are tormented by Him! Worship torments demons. Obedience torments demons. When we act in love, we torment demons Vs. 8 For He said to him, Come out of the man, unclean spirit! Then He asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion; for we are many. Demons often must be cast out this is what we call a power encounter Often we must get their name. Ex. Yasu, we got the name war, lust, and violence In this case, there were many in this man, at this time, a Roman Legion consisted of around 5000 men. Was this man controlled by 5000 demons? Could be. Jesus got the name and then he cast them out Vs. 13 Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine 2 How do demons affect us? What is the situation for the Christian?
