1. History and Aim of KCMA KCMA was established under the Toxic Chemicals Control Act (TCCA) in 1991 March. Consisting over 1,200 member Companies from variety of Chemical business Protecting public health and environment, and enhancing global economic of the chemical industry 4/54

2. Humidifier Disinfectant Accident Background - Chemicals used in humidifier disinfectants were exposed to users through inhalation. Breathing in the vapor resulted injury to respiratory system and death * Approximately 120 pregnant women and infants are presumed to have died due to lung damage Results - Raising awareness of the importance in confirmation of every chemicals being used - Highlight importance of exposure assessment and regulation of products according to its purpose of use - Citizen s request to regulate household products considering its composition, content, and risk * According to Public Opinion Poll(2012.Feb.01, 1,000 participants), 93.5% have agreed to the introduction of Chemicals registration, evaluation system 13/54

3. Public Anxiety Arising From Chemical Accidents Background - Valve was accidentally opened by workers while attempting to transfer 99% concentrated hydrofluoric acid to another tank at a factory on 2012.Sep. 27 - Because the workers were killed on site, exact cause of the accident is difficult to identify, 8 tons of hydrofluoric acid was released - 55.4 billion won financial aid from the government for 5 deaths and 23 injuries, medical treatment for residents, compensation for damages to farmland and livestock animal Results - Increasing distrust of residents to chemicals and chemical industry - Establishment of comprehensive system for chemical accident prevention, preparedness and response needed 14/54
