Comment: This problem shows that in general, the aggregate net output of the entire production sector falls if transactions between sectors are taxed. There are many applications of this result. Note that (xiv) shows that the loss of output is proportional to the square of the tax rate, t 2. This problem shows you that you now have the mathematical tools that will enable you to construct simple models that cast some light on real life, practical economic problems. 23
