This 8-ft telescoping sensor mast is made of rugged anodized aluminum, with heavy-duty powdered-coated steel mounting brackets which are permanently installed on the vehicle. The telescoping mast and affixed sensors are detachable for easy storage when not in use. The built-in North Orientation Offset feature quickly and efficiently orients wind direction readings to North. WeatherMaster software interfaces with Cameo/Aloha software to automatically ingest weather data for HazMat applications. With the Vehicle-Mount option and the 19" rack mount Weather Display console, the Capricorn becomes the ideal weather station for mobile vehicle operations. Modular Flexibility Field Proven Reliability Dependable Accuracy Powerful Software Superior Customer Service The Capricorn 2000EX weather station s modular design provides professional grade data capture, storage and transfer. Designed around the Control Module, this flexible modular system can easily accept signal inputs from a wide variety of meteorological sensors. Data is viewed using the Weather Display Console and/or computer software connected to the Control Module via dual RS-232 ports. Internet-ready weather data and industrial protocols are available through the Weather MicroServer. CONTROL MODULE Housed in a compact, utility-grade or weatherproof enclosure, the Control Module includes a data logger storing up to 511 records at user-defined intervals with time and date stamp. Max/Min information is also stored at user-defined intervals. Dual on-board RS-232 interfaces allow connection to a display console, modem, or directly to a computer at the same time. WIND DIRECTION AND SPEED The Capricorn 2000EX features a durable aluminum/stainless steel wind sensor assembly. The wind direction sensor offers superior resolution and accuracy. The wind speed sensor is rated up to 160 MPH. The wind direction sensor uses a precision potentiometer while the wind speed sensor uses a sealed reed switch. BAROMETRIC PRESSURE Housed in the Control Module, the barometric pressure sensor is a silicon shear stress strain gauge. This state-of-the-art sensor integrates on-chip, bipolar op amp circuitry and thin film resistor networks to provide a high-level analog output signal and true temperature compensation. The on-chip integration results in high reliability and accuracy. The sensor is calibrated at the factory NIST traceable standard. RELATIVE HUMIDITY This capacitive sensor is compact and easy to use. It can be installed in a radiation shield for protection from the elements. This sensor offers long-term stability with minimal drift and resistance to contamination.

RAINFALL LEAF WETNESS Measured with a capacitance grid, this proprietary leaf wetness sensor provides a precise, high resolution scale, not just wet or dry. It is useful to determine the wetness condition of surfaces including foliage, or example, in preparation for spraying pesticides. The tipping bucket electronic rain gauge is composed of a complex spun collector funnel with a knife edge that diverts the water to a tipping bucket mechanism. For each tip, a magnet causes an electronic pulse to be recorded. The rainfall sensor is completely automatic and requires no servicing. SOLAR RADIATION The pyranometer or solar radiation sensor is calibrated to measure the shortwave radiation reaching the Earth's surface, measured in Watts m -2. Self-cleaning dome-shaped head prevents water accumulation. Sensor head is potted solid to prevent internal condensation in humid environments. TEMPERATURE The Capricorn 2000EX comes standard with one temperature sensor and 50 feet of cable. Up to four temperature sensors can be connected with a maximum of 400 feet combined cable length. These digital, semiconductortype probes all connect to a single port, reducing susceptibility to noise interference, reducing cost, and increasing accuracy. The sensors are calibrated at the factory. Also available as panel-mount for solar panel monitoring. SOIL/WATER TEMPERATURE An environmentally hardened temperature sensor is also available for soil and water temperature. This sensor is housed in stainless steel and is sealed in thermally conductive epoxy to provide protection against corrosion and moisture. The sensor is calibrated at the factory. This provides highly accurate and stable temperature readings. Humidity The relative humidity sensor is a capacitive polymer sensor. The humidity sensor elements construction provides excellent resistance to wetting, dust, dirt, oils, and common environmental chemicals. Barometric Pressure The barometric pressure sensor is a stable transducer using nano-technology, yielding a linear and repeatable sensor with low hysteresis. The piezoresistive pressure sensor module is mounted on a small electronic circuit board. A microcontroller controls the operation of the sensor and the data interface. The microcontroller polls the pressure sensor module once per second for the barometric pressure and ambient temperature. The raw readings are temperature corrected by the microcontroller. Wind Measurement A unique folded-path, low-power sonic anemometer operates on the principle that the speed of the wind affects the time it takes for sound to travel from one point to a second point. If the sound is traveling in the direction of the wind, then the transit time is decreased. If the sound is traveling in a direction opposite the wind, then the transit time is increased. Fluxgate Compass The internal compass module is low power and compact. It employs a pair of magneto-inductive sensors which change inductance with varying magnetic field strengths, to sense the Earth s magnetic field. The microprocessor measures the output of the internal compass and then corrects wind direction data for the orientation of the sensor. The output of the wind direction is relative to magnetic North. A user programmable value of Magnetic Declination may be entered through terminal mode to enable output relative to True North rather than Magnetic North. Optional Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge Complex spun collector funnel with a knife edge that diverts the water to a tipping bucket mechanism. For each tip, a magnet causes an electronic pulse that is recorded. The rainfall sensor is completely automatic - spent water drains out of the bottom of the housing, requiring no servicing. System Includes: Magellan Sensor Transmitter with 50 foot cable and mounting adapter Weatherproof Enclosure with two 4-20 ma converter modules and power supply Recommended: Surge Suppressors Optional: Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge Columbia Weather Systems, Inc. 5285 NE Elam Young Pk, Suite C100 Hillsboro, OR 97124 Please contact us today for a free quotation! Weather MicroServer Optional Sensors: The visibility sensor measures atmospheric visibility (meteorological optical range) by determining the amount of light scattered by particles (smoke, dust, haze, fog, rain, and snow) in the air that pass through the optical sample volume. A 42-degree forward scatter angle is used to ensure performance over a wide range of particle sizes. The pyranometer or solar radiation sensor measures the shortwave radiation reaching the Earth's surface. The self-cleaning convex lens measures even low-angle radiation directly from the sun in the morning and evening. The dome-shaped head prevents water accumulation. The resulting wind speed and direction are calculated from the measured run-time sound differential. Air Temperature and Humidity Temperature is measured by way of a highly accurate NTC-resistor while humidity is measured using a capacitive humidity sensor. To help mitigate the effects of external influences (e.g. solar radiation), these sensors are situated in a fan-aspirated housing. Air Pressure Absolute air pressure is measured with a built-in micro-electro-mechanical sensor (MEMS). The relative air pressure referenced to sea level is calculated using the barometric formula configured with local altitude input by the user. Precipitation The Model 600 precipitation sensor works with a 24GHz Doppler radar, which measures drop speed and calculates precipitation quantity and type by correlating drop size and speed. Model 601 utilitizes a tipping-bucket rain gauge. An optional leaf wetness sensor can be added to the 601. Solar Radiation The thermopile sensor construction measures the solar energy that is received from the total solar spectrum and the whole hemisphere (180 degrees field of view). Compass The integrated electronic compass can be used to orient the sensor housing and automatically correlate wind direction.
