Prezenţa neliniarităţilor în structura procesului condus, generator sincron sistem energetic (SE) favorizează utilizarea regulatoarelor (RG) cu neliniarităţi (NL) adaptabile la neliniarităţile procesului. Un caz particular remarcabil al RG-NL îl reprezintă regulatoarele fuzzy (RG-F). Pe de altă parte, acţiunea de reglare este favorizată de compensare constantelor de timp mari ale procesului de către regulator. Lucrarea prezintă o modalitate practică de proiectare a RG-F cu dinamică, bazată pe principiul echivalenţei modale, aplicată pentru cazul reglării tensiunii GS. Metoda preia experienţa de proiectare a regulatoarelor liniare din domeniul continuu, o tehnică uşor acceptată în domeniul energetic. Keywords: reglaj de tensiune, generator sincron regulator PI, regulator fuzzy de tip Takagi-Sugeno, regulator fuzzy-pi. 1. Introducere Structura informaţională a unui generator sincron (prescurtat GS) cuplat la sistemul energetic (SE) este relativ complicată [1], [2], [3]. Acest lucru face ca proiectarea regulatorului de tensiune să devină o sarcină foarte complicată. Pentru multe situaţii practice particulare adaptate aplicaţiei, în dezvoltarea regulatorului [4] se pot utiliza (cu anumite restricţii) modele de tip benchmark [5]. În faza de verificare a soluţiei aceste modele pot fi apoi extinse astfel încât să surprindă fenomene suplimentare care se manifestă în derularea procesului. În raport cu un regulator (RG) liniar, convenţional (de tip PI, PID, ), larg utilizat, RG fuzzy (RG-F) cu dinamică are avantajul suplimentar al posibilităţii introducerii unor proprietăţi neliniare (NL) şi al adaptabilităţii acestora dependent de situaţia şi de experienţa locală. Lucrarea este structurată pe patru părţi:: - prezentarea a două modele simplificate pentru procesul condus, reglajul tensiunii GS, care pot constitui suport pentru dezvoltarea regulatorului; - prezentarea unei metode simple de proiectare a RG de tensiune, bazate pe criteriul modulului; Abstract: The voltage control of synchronous generators (GS) is one of the two basic aims of controlling the technological parameters of power systems production. The presence of nonlinearities in the structure of the controlled plant, synchronous generator power system (SE) determines to become favorable the use of controllers (RG) with nonliearities (NL) adaptable to the nonlinearities of the plant. The fuzzy controllers (RG-F) represent a remarkable particular case of the RG-NL. On the other hand, the control action is favored by the compensation of the large time constants of the plant by means of the controller. The paper presents a practical way for the design of RG-F with dynamics, based on the modal equivalences principle, applied in the case of GS voltage control. The method takes over the experience in the design of linear controllers in the continuous domain, an easily accepted method in the field of power systems. Keywords: voltage control, synchronous generator, PI controller, Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller, PI-fuzzy controller. 1. Introduction The informational structure of a synchronous generator (abbreviated GS) connected to the power system (SE) is relatively complex [1], [2], [3]. This determines the design of the voltage controller to become a very complex task. For many particular practical situations adapted to the application, in the controller development [4] there can be used (with certain constraints) benchmark type models [5]. In the phase of testing the solution these models can be further extended in order to highlight additional phenomena taking place during the plant operation. With respect to a conventional linear controller (RG) (of PI, PID, type), widely used, the fuzzy controller (RG-F) with dynamics has the additional advantage of the possibility to introduce nonlinear (NL) properties and of their adaptability depending on the local situation and experience. The paper is structured in four parts as follows: - the presentation of two simplified models of the controlled plant, the GS voltage control, that can be support for the controller development; - the presentation of a simple method for the design of the voltage RG, based on the modulus optimum method;

Simplified mathematical modeling of the plant The complexity of the constructive and informational structure of the plant GS connected to the PS, Fig. 1 (exemplified in the case of a hydro-generator) makes necessary the use in the design phase of the simplified mathematical models (MM), obtained by linearization in certain particular operating conditions [1], [2]. Fig. 1. Structura funcţională a procesului condus Fig. 1. By accepting that for the voltage u E (t) control process ω(t)=0, i.e. ω(t) const, the GS model can be transformed into the much more simplified form shown in Fig. 3. The GS diagram has been framed in Fig. 3 into a structure of control system (SRA) that outlines by blocks the following connections (with dotted lines): - the contribution of the power system; this contribution can be modeled also by several forms of approximation f.d.t.s; for example: k s H S ( s) = 2 2 1 + 2ς sts s + Ts s, (2) with parameters adapted to the situation as close as possible to the real-world one; - the connection for the accomplishment of the artificial static coefficient (γ a ), whose presence does not affect the functionality of the controller (RG), and whose computation [7] is not the subject of this paper; the magnetization curve type nonlinearity can be introduced relatively easy in this structure. H ω ue (s) poate fi adusă la forma: ug ue In some practical situations (relatively small power GSs located in favorable zones of the SE [6]), in the phase of designing the voltage controller the f.d.t. H ω ue (s) can be brought to the form: k st 1 k2 Ex k M 1+ st 1+ st H ( s) = H P ( s) = k Exe. (3) Cum T 1 >>T 2, T Ex, prin aplicarea teoremei constantelor de timp mici se poate scrie: Since T 1 >>T 2, T Ex, by the application of small time constants theorem the result is: kp H P ( s) =, cu T 1 >>T Σ. Dacă se doreşte urmărirea punctului de funcţionare şi adaptarea parametrilor RG se poate apoi apela principiul gain-scheduling [8], [9]. k r P Σ w 1 2 The form (4) of the f.d.t. corresponds to a benchmark type model [5], advantageous to be used in the design of a linear (conventional) PI controller. 3. Design of the conventional controller By starting with the f.d.t. (4), the use of a PI type RG with the f.d.t. If in the controlled computation there is used the modulus optimum method in the version given in [5], the controller parameters will be computed in terms of the relations (7): şi T r =T 1. (7) The performance achieved by the SRA are very good, with the following (expected) values of the empirical quality performance indices: σ 1 = 4,3%, t r = 9,6 * T Σ, t 1 =4,7 * T Σ, γ n =0. The design methodology has been used in the computation of the PI type voltage controller with static coefficient in the power range of 10 MW [6]. If it is intended to follow the operating point and to adapt the RG parameters there can be employed the gain-scheduling principle [8], [9]. 4. Development and use of the Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy RG (with dynamics) The Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controllers are of two types depending on the way of including the dynamics in the structure of the fuzzy controller: - the PI-FC controller with integration on controller output (PI-FC-OI), and - the PI-FC controller with integration on controller input (PI-FC-II). The PI-FC-OI considered in the paper is characterized by: - the inclusion of the dynamics by the control error differentiation e k = w k y k (k index of current sampling interval), - the integration of control increment u k = u k u k-1 according to Fig. 4 [10].
The strictly speaking fuzzy controller without dynamics shown in Fig. 4 (FC) is characterized by the following features (exemplified for a smaller number of linguistic terms): the fuzzification is performed by means of the membership functions in Fig. 5 (the number of linguistic terms is three here) pointing out the PI-FC tuning parameters, {B e, B e }, it uses the max and min operators in the inference engine assisted by the rule base presented in Table 1, and employs the weighted average method for defuzzification [9], [10]. Fig. 4. Regulator fuzzy-pi cu integrarea ieşirii Fig. 4. PI-fuzzy controller with output integration Tabelul 1. Baza de reguli a regulatorului fuzzy-pi Table 1. Rule base of fuzzy-pi controller e k \ e k N ZE P P u k u k α u k ZE u k u k u k N α u k u k u k Fig. 5. The resented rule base ensures a quasi-pi behavior of the PI-FC. An additional parameter α, α (0, 1), was introduced for the sake of performance enhancement by alleviating the overshoot and downshoot in situations when e k and e k have the same sign. Otherwise the rule base of Table 1 can be reduced to only one rules. The development of the presented PI-FC is done in terms of the following steps: - determine by a classical design method the parameters {k C, T i } of the conventional PI controller (to be replaced by the PI-FC) with the transfer function (5)(b); - choose the sampling period h, discretize and obtain the parameters {K P, K I } of the quasi-continuous digital PI controller: u k = K P e k + K I e k, (8) with: e k = e k e k-1 the increment of control error; - apply the modal equivalences principle [11]: B e = (K I /K P )B e, (9) where in the case of Tustin s discretization method: K I = k R h /T i, K P = k C (1 h/2t i ), (10) After the development of the fuzzy controller, the desired nonlinear behavior can be ensured by: - the proper modification of the membership functions shapes, - the modification of the number of linguistic terms, - the modification of the inference method. The PI-FC-II exemplified in the paper is characterized by including the dynamics in terms of integrating the control error e k (e Ik represents the numerical integral of e k in Fig. 6).
422 The 5 th International Power Systems Conference Fig.6. Fig. 7. Performance in the unit step response with respect to w The parameters of the PI-FC-II are {B e, B ei } instead of the parameters {B e, B e } from the case of the PI-FC-OI, and its development is based on the (11) instead of (9): B ei = (K P /K I )B e. (11) For both fuzzy controllers the free parameter B e is usually chosen by heuristic rules in accordance with the experience of the control systems specialist. This is the reason why B e appears as an input to the PI-FC-OI from Fig. 4, and the same situation will be encountered for the PI-FC-II (Fig. 6). The SRA performance enhancement can be ensured by the development of a quasi-pi RG-F which ensures the on-line adaptation of the parameter B e on the basis of some structures of model reference adaptive RGs or of some predictive RG-F structures. 5. Case study. Digital simulation results The essential aim of the study has been focused on the testing and validation of the control solutions with fuzzy controllers developed on the basis of the presented methodology. With this respect it was considered the plant with the f.d.t. of the form (4) and the SRA structure in Fig. 2 (corresponding to the GS voltage control) with the parameters k P = 1, T 1 = 2.2 sec, şi T Σ = 0.2 sec. The SRA performance are assessed by the comparison of the situations of controlling the plant with the following controller types: - a linear controller of PI type designed by the modulus optimum method, and - two PI-fuzzy controllers - PI-FC-OI and PI-FC-II - with the constant parameter B e, B e =0.5. The comparative study is based on the analysis of the SRA performance achieved by simulation in Simulink, defined in the unit step responses with respect to the reference input w (of the type illustrated in Fig. 7) and with respect to the disturbance input v (of the type illustrated in Fig. 8). The significant parameters of the controllers are: k r =2.5, T i = 1.0 sec, (obtained by the continuous design), t s,imp < 2 sec, h = 0.05 sec. The performance achieved by the three SRAs are presented synthetically in Tables 2 and 3. From the analysis From the analysis of the results it can be drawn the conclusion that the performance of the three SRAs are relatively close, which is easy to be explained by the followings [10]: - the RG-Fs have symmetrical linguistic terms anc accordingly an almost linear static map ; - the plant model does not contain nonlinear blocks.

6. Concluzii The paper has presented two structured of RG-F with dynamics with integration on the RG-F input and output, respectively easily to implement in practical applications [10] and a method for their design. The design of the RG- F with dynamics is based on the results of the previous continuous design of a continuous PI controller. In the continuous design it has been used the modulus optimum method to exactly its simplicity and efficiency. The digital simulation results have been validated the fuzzy control solutions. The interpretation of digital simulations (Tables 2 and 3) corresponds to a well accepted approximation in the hydro-generator voltage control [6]; they point out that the presented methods for controller design used by the authors in other applications as well can ensure very good SRA performance. In comparison with a classical PI controller a standard PI-fuzzy controller can have the advantage in compensating the plant nonlinearities. This requires the presence of the process expert or, in some cases, the extension of the SRA structures with other functions.
The 5 th International Power Systems Conference More convenient results can be obtained for a larger number of linguistic terms (five for the inputs and seven for the output) which contributes to the control system performance enhancement and to better nonlinearities modeling. However, this is accompanied by an additional design effort. Bibliografie (References) 1.
