Overview of Pearl River County E-9-1-1 Communications District GIS In 1998 the Pearl River County E-9-1-1 Communications District saw the need to implement a Geographic Information System to prepare for FCC Rule 94-102 in regards to locating the Wireless (Cellular) Caller in an emergency situation. In implementing GIS we will also help the Wireline Caller s. Funding for this project came from E-9-1-1 Funds designated for the sole purpose of this project. After researching extensively, the District purchased ESRI ArcView 3.2a platform and GeoLink Software with a Differential GPS Unit using Omnistar Satellite. In 1999 the Centerline Road Base Data was collected. The E-9-1-1 Communications District is continuing the updates of all New Centerline Road Base Data with our GIS and GPS Software.

The Digital Orthophotography, which will be completed within the next two years, can enhance the Emergency Service First Responders and future Emergency Planning and Infrastructure with the location of structures not yet addressed and roads not yet Digitized.
