CHANGES TO THE GEOLOGY & GEOPHYSICS PROGRAMS FOR 2018 19 For 2018 19, the changes are: (a) Geology 435 or Geology 441, geology and hydrogeology field courses, respectively, are added as required courses in the Geology Major program and the Geology Major Program (Petroleum Geology Concentration); (b) Geology 313 (Mineralogy) is added as prerequisite for the course Geology 463; (c) Science 311 (Writing and Reviewing Scientific Reports) is added as prerequisite for the courses Geology 509 (Independent Study) and Geology 510 (Senior Thesis); (d) is added as a required course in the Geophysics program; (e) For Geophysics 457 (Physical Properties of Rocks), Geophysics 547 (Gravity and Magnetics) and Geophysics 551 (Seismic Theory and Methods), the prerequisite of Mathematics 331 is changed to Mathematics 331 or 367 or 377 ; other prerequisites for these courses remain the same, and; (f) In addition, the Geophysics Program regulations now include: Geophysics majors are allowed to replace MATH 331 with MATH 367 or 377 in their programs as long as they also take either AMAT 311 or MATH 375 as a Science or in their programs. Students are advised to consult their Degree Navigator (DN) or the new and improved Academic Advisement (AA) tool to determine which courses they still need to graduate. Students may follow any version of these tools from the point at which they were admitted to the Faculty of Science, e.g. F13 or later for those admitted in F13. Students must follow one set of requirements in their entirety (students may not mix requirements from different regulation years). Students may focus their studies by following the Hydrogeology/Environmental Geoscience stream* or the Solid Earth Geoscience stream*. This entails choosing appropriate options which are outlined below. Students in the Petroleum Geology concentration mostly follow what could be considered a Sedimentary stream. * Realize that a stream is not a distinct program. Rather, it is a set of recommended geoscience courses that students can take within the BSc Geology program to focus their studies in a specific area of interest.
