GODIN LAKE AREA. ONTARIO. FOR '^T B. W..LANG. Mv INTRODUCTION On April 11 and May 15, 1966, Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited conducted a combined airborne electromagnetic and magnetometer survey for B.W. Lang in the Godln Lake Area, Townships 47 and 48, District of Algoma, Ontario. This report pertains to the magnetometer phase of the survey. II. SURVEY AND COMPILATION DETAILS The survey was flown by the Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited geophyslcally equipped Otter aircraft, registration CF-IGM, based at Wawa, Ontario. The line direction for the survey was North-South (astr.) and the line spacing was 1/8 mile. The mean terrain clearance of the aircraft was approximately 150 feet. The geophysical data acquired totalled 101 miles. Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited personnel associated with the survey were as follows: G. A. Curtis D. McDonell. T. Korpatt G. Deluce J. Watt T. Peacock R. Irvin G. Granger P. Tallyhoe R. Falconer Project Manager Pilot - Navigator Pilot - Navigator Pilot Navigator Operator Aircraft Engineer Data Reduction Data Chief Geophysicist.

The measuring head, installed in the tail section of the Otter, utilise* National Union Electron Beam tubes. Deflection of a beam of electrons by the magnetic field produces a differential current which fiowa between two cathode plates in the tube. This current is amplified and the resultant voltage is proportional to the magnetic field., Two such tubes orient a third tube by means of servo-mechanisms into the direction of the earth's total field. Total field is then cancelled electronically and variations in the total field are measured and recorded. Four settings are available, providing full scale measurements of 600, 1200, 3000 and 6000 gammas. The useable short term sensitivity is approximately 5 gammas and the total dynamic range of the instrument is 60,000 gammas. The magnetic profile is displayed in rectilinear fora on an 8-inch Texas Instruments Rectilinear Recorder. The flight path of the aircraft is recorded by an Aenpath AS-5 continuous strip 35 mm. camera. The camera is eynchx aized with the magnetometer record by means of a fiducial numbering system. Path recovery is accomplished by relating this film strip to an airphoto composite of the area. their fiducial numbers. Identified points are designated by

These data are then contoured at 50 gamma intervals and drafted. isomagnetic contours of the Godin Lake Area are presented on a single map at the scale of l" - k mile. The HI. In the extreme Several i IV. RESULTS The magnetic contour map of the area shows for the most part a complex pattern of high and low magnetic readings, which can be best described as a "marble cake' 1 appearance. Magnetic intensities range up to 1500 gammas above background. These patterns and magnetic intensities are typical of basic volcanics which are interpreted as covering most of the area.
centered on line 270, are tones of relatively low magnetic a&w i!?s'' Vt *. V response. These two zones are Joined by a narrow band of similar response that passes through the center of the area. These areas ara acidic volcanics, with minor Interbedded basic volcanics. In the soothe*'t corner of the survey area, a granitic Intrusion Is mapped, but on the basis of the magnetics, this cannot be distinguished from the acidic volcanics. The magnetic results agree quite well with the geological map, except the acidic volcanics extend further to the east than mapped. All electromagnetic anomalies detected In that survey fall In relative lows In the basic volcanics. Respectfully submitted, OTTAWA, Ontario, August 11, 1966. Ralph D. Falconer, Geophysicist.
