Motivation Letter Respected Selection committee, I am writing to apply for the early stage researcher under Marie-Curie ITN BIOGEL program. I wish to pursue my Master Degree in Chemistry at Uppsala University, Sweden. I am putting myself forward for this position, believing that my academic background and experience are well suited for the needs of this endeavor. I would like to introduce myself as a research student. I have completed my Master of Science in Chemical Sciences from the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. I had my under graduation in Biochemistry from Kakatiya University, India. I am highly motivated to carry out further research in the field of Chemical Sciences specifically in the field of Organic chemistry, which gives me ample opportunity to build a sound academic background and contribute constructively into the field of my interest. During my Master s studies, I did synthesis and characterization of inorganic and organic materials. In addition, I also synthesized few Building blocks for the synthesis of novel expanded porphyrinoids. I have an ability to co-operate within the group and have good communication skills. I have a good practical and theoretical knowledge in inorganic chemistry/ organometallic reactions. My previous work experience as Junior Project Fellow at CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in a Department of Science & Technology (DST) Govt. of India sponsored project entitled Characterization and assessment of conventional water treatment facilities for pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) gave me some basics about the different techniques for the identification of critical PPCPs using sophisticated instruments such as GC-MS and HPLC. We have been honored with the best poster award to Investigation of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in Influent and Effluent of Local STP, Nagpur region, Maharashtra presented at 34th International Symposium on Halogenated persistent Organic Pollutants (IEEP-2014), 16-17th Jan-14, organized by CSIR-NEERI. Recently a manuscript with entitled as Investigation of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in the influent and effluents of sewage treatment plant in Nagpur region, Maharashtra, India is communicated to international journal of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety on August 25th 2014 unfortunately returned back for additional work. At present am working in a Department of Science Technology (DST),India funded project titled Rural Hybrid Energy Enterprise Systems [RHEES] presents BRIDGING THE URBAN RURAL DIVIDE BURD. My current work includes development of materials for improved combustion of biomass gas. Catalysis, synthesis of low cost materials, gases separation and evaluation using gas chromatography techniques synthesis of materials for Environmental and energy applications. My research interests include synthesis of various functional group metal-catalyzed transformations for organic molecules, discovering new catalysts and materials for sustainable chemistry and energy applications. Having also previously worked on the synthesis of small macromolecules, I should be able to pick up the required skills to give my best. Therefore, further I like to pursue my Doctoral degree in the same field and looking for research group working on macro molecules synthesis.
The opportunity to learn new skills and hone the ones I already have is with me a strong motivation to apply for this position. The chance to do research under your expert guidance and to be associated with such an internationally renowned and prestigious European institutions contributes to my motivation for pursuing this position. I am really passionate about my work and earnest about my future plans, which envisage doing a Doctorate, and I see this experience as having great importance to my future research-career plans. I would be very grateful if you consider my application and give me a chance to participate in the Erasmus programme at your University, which would mark my future professional and personal development. The chance to do research under your expert guidance and to be associated with such an internationally renowned prestigious group will be a great pleasure to me. Moreover, I will cherish the opportunity to enhance my lab experience. I am aware that Doctoral study calls for a high degree of innovation and commitment and I am confident that with my unwavering dedication and persistence, I will be able to face all posed challenges. Therefore, please consider my application for admission to the PhD program associated within your laboratory. I shall be glad to forward any other information that may need to know about me. I have enclosed my Curriculum Vitae as attachment which includes full list of my Academic Qualifications and my last supervisor s reference letter. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely Vidyasagar Devthade
