Common Features High social, economical and cultural interrelationships between both regions since long time. Similar language (Portuguese and Galician), weather, culture, landscape and natural environment, gastronomy and enology. Both are peripheral (Atlantic) areas in Europe and in their own countries. Commercial and labour trade but also for leisure time and tourism. Holding 49% of all the traffic between Spain and Portugal Both economies are turning from an Agriculture specialization in the early 80s to a Services focused economy. There is some heavy industry in both regions. Sea related economies. 6

European added value: helping to ensure that borders are not barriers, bringing Europeans closer together, helping to solve common problems, facilitating the sharing of ideas and assets, and encouraging strategic work towards common goals Type of projects: shared management of natural resources, risk protection, improving transport links, creating networks of universities, research institutes etc. The European Territorial is intended to strengthen, in coordination with the EU's strategic priorities, the joint interventions of the Member States in actions of integrated territorial development. 8

European Grouping of Territorial (EGTC) - instrument at Community level to overcome the obstacles to cross-border cooperation, allowing the cooperative groups to implement territorial cooperation projects financed by the Community or perform activities of territorial cooperation initiative of the Member States. -TheEGTCsare regulatedby thereg. 1082/2006 -The objective of the EGTC is to facilitate and promote cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation among its members. The EGTC is made up of Member States, regional authorities, local authorities and statutory bodies on a voluntary basis. GNP-EGTC Main Goals Promoting cross border relationship. Adding value to the euroregional entrepreneur base, by promoting competition through knowledge and innovation. Developing transport and access to basic transport systems. Increasing euroregionalsocial and institutional cohesion. Facilitate and encourage the territorial cooperation between Galicia and Norte Portugal, collaborating with the GNP- Working Community, in accordance with the 2007-2013 Strategic Plan Objectives.
