AP CALCULUS BC 6 SCORING COMMENTARY (Form B) Question 6 Overview This problem presented students with the Maclaurin series for f( ) =. In part (a) students were asked to + find the first three nonzero terms and the general term for the Maclaurin series for f ( ). In part (b) they then needed to use their results to find the sum of the infinite series that is obtained by evaluating the Maclaurin series for f ( ) at =. Part (c) asked for the first four nonzero terms and the general term for the Maclaurin series for Ú f() t dt, and then part (d) asked students to use the first three nonzero terms to approimate this definite integral. The second question in part (d) asked students to list the properties of the terms of the series representing this definite integral that guaranteed that their approimation is within of the eact value of, the integral. This question tested whether students knew that the terms must not only alternate and converge to, but must also decrease in absolute value to use the error bound for alternating series.
