Recreation Programs For All Seasons! Residents of all ages, from pre-school children through seniors, will be able to participate in a broad variety of classes and activities in every season. Please read the program notes as some classes can be registered for by phone or email. Despite reductions in state funding and corresponding municipal budget cuts, the Township and the Recreation Department are working hard to continue to offer the programs that are the most popular with our residents. Inside this booklet and on our website, you will find a listing of the programs offered this 2017-2018 Winter season. Weehawken continues to be a quality community where you can live, work and play. Registration All programs requiring registration may be registered in person or by email. Please download and/or print the Registration Form on page 22. The Recreation Department is located inside the Tower Plaza Mall, across from the ACME Supermarket, next to Super Cuts at 4100 Park Avenue. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. To send registration by email: weehawkenrecreation@gmail.com. TENNIS REGISTRATION SHOULD BE EMAILED TO: weehawkentennis@gmail.com Registration is open to all residents and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Many are in high demand and space is limited. Plan accordingly as some programs may not be available at a later date. Programs with open enrollment (i.e. adult fitness classes) do not require preregistration. Indoor Archery Boys & Girls ~ Ages 9-13 Roosevelt School Gym 1 Louisa Place 8 week instructional program Mondays, beginning January 8, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 26 and March 5, 12 (NO CLASS JAN. 15 and FEB 19) (2 groups will be formed depending on registration & experience) Classes are taught by a professionally certified archery instructor and will cover an introduction to the use of the traditional recurve bow and the importance of range safety. Students will learn how to properly hold, draw, and aim to achieve a successful archery shot. All equipment and supplies are provided. Archery lessons build confidence by setting, working toward, and achieving goals. Group 1: 6:30 to 7:30 pm Group 2: 7:30 to 8:30 pm REGISTRATION REQUIRED! ~ CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED to 20! All fees must be pre-paid Ages 17 & Up Christmas/Holiday Project, Tuesday, December 19 7:00 PM 8:30 PM at Senior/Nutrition Center 201 Highwood Avenue $25 fee per workshop, which includes supplies for class Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit! In this workshop, students will create beautiful fall and winter designs for their homes or offices. Students will take the projects home at the conclusion of the seminar. These hands-on designs are suitable for both beginners and experienced floral designers. Due to the specialized nature of this holiday course, advanced registration is required. Budding Bakers REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Limited to 15 students per session. Ages 9 to 13 2-5 week sessions for boys and girls ages 9-13 (child must be age 9 by Jan. 1, 2018) *Children on last year s wait list will be registered first *Children may only be registered for one 5 week session Culinary class introduces young chefs to the fun and exciting world of baking! Children will learn to prepare simple but tasty recipes, pastries and other baked treats in a state of the art professionally equipped kitchen. Basic measuring, preparation, kitchen safety, and other techniques are taught. Stevens Institute of Technology Family and Lap Swimming and Use of Fitness Center The Mayor and Town Council would like to remind Weehawken residents of the opportunity to use the Stevens Institute of Technology s pool and fitness center at no charge. This popular program is the result of our partnership agreement with Stevens Institute of Technology. It allows for use of the Stevens lap pool and weight and fitness center at no cost to Weehawken residents. Residents must first complete an application in person at the Weehawken Recreation office located inside the Tower Plaza Mall across from the ACME Supermarket at 4100 Park Ave. (next to SuperCuts) Proof of residency and photo ID is required.
