- TEACHER S NOTES Synopsis Eli gets up one morning and her scientist dad has made her breakfast. Eli has a science exam and her dad tries to help her remember the planets But she doesn t listen! The exam doesn t go very well, big sister Nicky is bullying Eli and her friend Brian, and she has no one to help her at the talent show... What a day! If only Eli had listened to dad, she might have passed her science exam about the solar system. If only she got on better with her sister, perhaps they could have won the talent competition together. If only But when Eli discovers a zapper that can rewind and fast-forward time, she gets a magical second chance to do things differently. FLASHCARDS Learn vocabulary related the solar system and talents. WORKSHEET 1 Use the flashcards to teach students vocabulary related to the play. With students from CI, write the planet names in order on the board and have them put the flashcards in order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. With students from CM/S, you can make 2 teams and have them write the planet names on the board without looking at the flashcards: What is planet number 1? Attribute 1 point to the correct spelling. Talents: guitar, piano, microphone, recorder, writing music, tambourine. THE CHARATCERS Learn about the main characters in the play: Eli, Nicky and Brian. WORKSHEET 2 Tell your students to read about the three main characters in the play. They should match the characters with the food and subjects they like. Students from CM/S can ask each other in groups: What food do you like? What s your favourite subject? Answers: Brian-cookies/science, Nicky-chocolate/reading, Eli-apples/maths WHO S TALENT IS IT? Match characters with talents. A SPECIAL DAY Order the sequence of events. WORKSHEET 3 Tell your students to match the characters with the talents. Students in CM/S can fill in the gaps while listening to the song again. Play it a few times until they complete the exercise. Answers: 1-Mercury, 2-Venus, 3-Earth, 4-Mars, 5-Sun, 6-Jupiter, 7-Saturn, 8-Uranus, 9-Neptune, 10-Venus, 11-Jupiter, 12-Earth, 13-Neptune, 14-planet, 15- Mercury, 16- Earth, 17-Mars E.g. Students in CI: Distribute planet name tags amongst your students making sure you use all 8 planets (you can repeat). Get them in a circle, and when playing the song, students have to jump up when they here their planet s name. MY ZAPPER Imagination and sharing! Practice writing and speaking in English. WORKSHEET 9 Ask your students what they would do if they had a Zapper to change things. Students from CI can draw a picture and try to explain it in English. Students from CM/S can draw and support their drawing by writing sentences using a simple structure: My zapper can Drawings can be put on the wall and students can share their zapping ideas!
