as told by the boys and girls in Kindergarten 2006-2007 Pumpkin Delight School

We hope you enjoyed these tales from the PDS Kindergartners of 2006/07 (Graduating Class of 2018/19)

Some schools in Milford were named after people, such as Jonathan Law High School (a former governor), Joseph A. Foran High School (a former superintendent), Mathewson Elementary School (a former superintendent), and John F. Kennedy Elementary School (a former president). Others were named after locations, such as East Shore Middle School (located on the east side of Milford), West Shore Middle School (located on the west side of Milford), and Orange Avenue Elementary School and Meadowside Elementary School (both streets). Stories about how Pumpkin Delight School got its name have been told to the children of the school for years. Now, the Kindergarten children of 2006/07 tell us some stories.

by Daniel Some people made a name for it. And then they builded it and then they put in the floor and the rugs and they put the light bulbs in. It s called Pumpkin Delight School because Mr. Scarpetti made the name. They builded the school and he watched them. They put some furniture in. They got the name from pumpkins. They made the name because they builded the hallways. They put the walls on and the shades in and the windows in and the doors in. The named it because it was a special name. They put in tables. They put in shelves. They put in a clock. They made the ceiling. They put in some bricks in the front of the school and the little and big trees. In the back, there was a big playground. In the side, there was a little playground. We play baseball there. It s really fun.

by Hannah A long time ago, this maybe was a pumpkin patch. Maybe someone liked it here and they took it down and made a school. Maybe they planted pumpkins here. The pumpkins looked orange and round and had butterflies and pretty green stems. Maybe it could have been a garden. There were carrots there, too. There were rabbits in the garden. Maybe in the garden there were some peas there. They put names like Pumpkin with Carrots and Peas and Princess Elementary School in a pumpkin and they picked the name Pumpkin. The End!

by Austin A long time ago, there was a pumpkin patch. It broke down. Then they built the school and they put kids in the school. The principal made the name. He called it Pumpkin Delight School. He got the name from the person who did the pumpkin patch. If it had trees on it, it would have been called Tree Patch School. If it was a turkey farm, it would have been called Turkey Patch School. If it had chickens, it would have been called Chicken Patch School. People were glad that it was a pumpkin patch.

by Alex A long time ago, there was a pumpkin farm. The pumpkins were round and orange. There were animals, too. Cows and chickens and sheeps and lambs and horses. Then they closed it all down. Then they builded Pumpkin Delight School. They wanted to call it Pumpkin Delight School because of the pumpkins. They didn t want to call it Sheep School or Horse School because the other people would have thought it would be funny.

by Madison Once upon a time, Pumpkin Delight School was always here. It looked the same. Kids always came to the school for Kindergarten. Once the person that liked pumpkin pie, they decided to name the school Pumpkin Delight School.

by Caitlin This is how Pumpkin Delight School got the school name. Once upon a time, there were some trees and some grass and some flowers. I think I saw a church and some apples and oranges. They named it Pumpkin Delight School because it s a big school and in some classes, they have some soft make-believe pumpkins. Maybe somebody put a real pumpkin on their desk.

by Alana Once upon a time, there was a beautiful mermaid. And her name was Pumpkin. She liked pumpkins a lot because they were orange. She really liked Halloween. She made herself a pumpkin. Then she lit the pumpkin up. And then she dressed up into a human. She got lots and lots of candy and when it was time to go home, she made lots and lots of pumpkins. She went to a school named Delight. She had lots of friends that loved to make pumpkins. The only thing she wanted to do was to sit at her desk and make pumpkins. When it was her birthday, she kept asking her parents to have a pumpkin cake. Every day, after school when it was time for dinner, she would have pumpkin pie. They named Pumpkin Delight School after a mermaid.

by Jordin The place had some pumpkins. They took the seeds out and cut eyes and a nose and a mouth out. They built the school and decided to name it after the Jack-O-Lanterns. But Jack-O-Lanterns were too scary, so they named it Pumpkin Delight School.

by Katie Pumpkin Delight School is made out of pumpkins. Before they made the school, there was a valley of pumpkins. There was a scarecrow. There were some birds. They made the school from the pumpkins. They put the scarecrow in the middle of the pumpkins. It fell apart and they needed to fix it, so they made it again. It fell apart again. They build it again. The kids came in. It fell apart on them. They stopped fixing it. So they made it out of wood.

by Christina A long time ago, there was a pumpkin patch. People buyed pumpkins to make Jack-O-Lanterns out of them and then it came a long, long time and then they built a school there. And then they decided to name the school and they knew there was a pumpkin patch there, so they decided to name it Pumpkin Delight School. And then the kids came to the school to register as a new school member and then the first day of school, they went to their classrooms. They had so much fun and then they kept on going to school, and they wanted to go to school because they had so much fun there.

by Stefanie Once there was a farm and it had pumpkins and then they used a wrecking ball and then they built a school and then children had fun at the Pumpkin Delight School. And they lived happily ever after.

by Mackenzie A long time ago, they built a building and they called it Pumpkin Delight School. They thought it would be nice because they liked it that way. Children came there and went to their classrooms and some teachers came. Then they just started doing class stuff.

by Jimmy Mr. Scarpetti named it because there were pumpkins here. They picked the pumpkins. The people brought them home. At Halloween, they used it for Jack-O- Lanterns. They put the school there, then people signed in. They looked around the classroom and went on a bus ride to the beach. Then they came back to Pumpkin Delight School. She showed us around the school. They were happy, then we started reading books.

by Yana Once upon a time, a long time ago, someone named the school. They named it Pumpkin Delight School because they liked that name because they just thought it because of the pumpkins right next to the pencils. The children liked that name. The kids just wanted to know what the name was and Mr. Scarpetti said, No.

by Albert A long time ago, papers were pumpkins and dolphins. There was some kids absent. After they named it Pumpkin Delight School, they had a fire drill. I like fire drills.

by Antoine Once upon a time, a school was called Pumpkin Delight School. Ms. Chila named it. They put some windows in it and they made a clock in it. And they made computers and chairs and books.

by Dominick One day, they thought of the name and they said, Hey, let s name the school Pumpkin Delight School because it looks like a pumpkin. The kids came and they went to school and they closed it because they didn t want it open anymore. And then they opened it up again.

by Zachary It s called Pumpkin Delight School because it doesn t have any other name. A little fell down. They built it high and they got magic glue that fixed it. They made it big and big they didn t know how to do the top. I don t know how they made the top. Then they just went to bed. And then it got a name.

by Oliver A long time ago, there was a pumpkin patch and then they knew there was technology, and then they knew there was a pumpkin patch a long time ago, so they called the school Pumpkin Delight School. They made school buses and then lived happily ever after.
