Geography Geography: Key Skills and Concepts EYFS KS1 & KS2 1. Geography NOT taught as discrete subject. 2. Taught within Specific Area of Understanding of the World: The World 1. The Geography curriculum and its teaching should inspire a life-long curiosity in pupils. 2. Teaching will equip children with knowledge of : diverse places, people and resources natural and human environments earth s key physical and human processes 3. G11 G12 G13 Key Stage 2 Subject Content (at KS2 knowledge extended to include UK, Europe, North and South America) Locate the world s countries using maps to focus on Europe (incl. Russia) and N and S America. Focus is environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities. LK Name and locate countries and cities of the UK, geographical regions and their identifying characteristics, key topographical features (hills, mountains, coasts and rivers) and land-use patterns and how some of these aspects have changed over time. LK Identify the position and significance of latitude, longitude, Equator, northern and southern hemisphere, Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, Artic and Antartic, the Prime/Greenwich Meridian and time zones incl day and night. Agreed time for KS2 is 45 hours per year, which equates to 15 hours for each topic. Units to be blocked and a clear set of outcomes linked to key historical skills and concepts.
