What is Geophysics? Earth science discipline using principals of physics to image the ground (or other materials) usually non intrusive methods. Broad range of scale from large scale global seismology (earthquakes) and volcanoes, to oil and gas exploration, mineral and resource exploration, national geological surveys, local surveys for new developments to small scale surveys on individual buildings. My Team 31 people strong across 3 UK offices 24 Geophysicists who have degree in geophysics or related subject. Include 4 chartered geologists and one chartered scientist. 5 Land Surveyors. Various backgrounds, not all went to university. All have good Maths and English qualifications. 2 support staff without university degrees. Both have good GCSE qualifications including Maths and English. Copyright of RSK 24 November 2017 9

Find lots of things below the surface... Locating Man Made Structures Buried Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water etc) Buried foundations and former structures (including archaeology) Historical mining activity (shafts, adits and areas of open cast activity) Landfills and mapping contamination Natural Features Natural cavities (caves and ground collapse) Depth to bedrock / faults / variations in geology / water table etc Survey of existing structures Scan thickness of floor slabs, walls etc Locate reinforcement and construction detail Locate chimney flues within walls Copyright of RSK 24 November 2017 12
