The spectum of elementay chages and masses is obtained. 1 Intoduction PAC numbes: 11.10.-z; 11.10.Lm Quantization of the electical chage and mass still emains a challenge fo moden physics. Seveal attempts wee made to solve this poblem, e.g. [1, 2]. As an altenative to these conside the following appoach. Conside fields g ab,ãa) in fou-dimensional spacetime, whee g ab is the metics and Ãa is dimensionless electomagnetic potential, elated to the one in standad units by the ule Ãa = la a, whee l is dimensional constant. Take the following actions fo a paticle and fields electomagnetic and gavitational): S p = m 1 c G ab dx a dx b m 2 c Ãa dx a ; 1) S f = 1 dω g 16πc l F ab 2 Fab ; 2) S g = c dω grg). ) 16πk 1 e-mail: palatnik@ipco.com 1
Hee F ab = a à b b à a, Fab = G ac G bd Fcd, tenso G ab is invese to G ab = g ab ÃaÃb. The mass ofthepaticle isdenoted bym 1 ; mass m 2 = l 1 c 2 eis elated to the electical chage, e. The speed of light is denoted by c, and k is the Newtonian constant of gavitational inteactions. This theoy may be egaded as a model of the Kaluza-Klein theoy. If Ãa wee a gauge potential and tansfomations Ãa = à a + a f wee allowed, one might assume due to 1) that G ab is gauge-invaiant. Then, fom definition of G ab one would obtain that metics g ab tansfoms by the ule g ab = g ab +2à a b) f+ a f b f. Thus, as it follows fom 1) ), this theoy is not gauge-invaiant. Define densities, µ 1 and µ 2, accodingly, m i = µ i gdv,i = 1,2.) 4) Hee dv is element of thee-dimensional volume. Fom the least action pinciple it follows that genealized Maxwell equations ae: F ab ;b +G ad Fdc Fbc à b = 4πl 2 J a ; 5) F [ab;c] = 0. 6) Heesemicolondenotesthecovaiantdeivativeassociatedwithg ab, i.e. equations g ab;c = 0 take place. The electical cuent, J a = µ 2 c 2 µ 1c 2 ÃbU b) U a U. 7) 0 Hee U a = dx a Gcd dx c dx d. 8) 2
The stess-enegy, enteing Einstein equations fo g ab consists of two pats; T ab, petaining to the paticle, and t ab, petaining to electomagnetic field, T ab = µ 1 c 2 U a U b t ab = 1 4πl 2 ; 9) U 0 G ad Fdc Fbc + 1 ) 4 gab Fcd Fcd. 10) Below the attention is focused on electomagnetic inteactions in flat spacetime g ab = η ab = diag1, 1, 1, 1)). 2 Non-Relativistic Limit In non-elativistic limit one neglects tems of the ode v C, whee v denotes speeds of paticles. Take x a = c t,x α ),α = 1,2,. The potential is descibed by Ãax b ) = sinψx b ),0,0,0), geneated by the only non-vanishing component of the cuent, Ã 0 J 0 = µ 2 c 2 µ 1c 2. 11) G00 Then 5) is equivalent to Ψ = 4πl 2 c 2 µ 2 cosψ µ 1 sinψ); 12) hee denotes the Laplacian. One may wite down a class of exteio solutions, coesponding to the chage distibution J 0, Ã 0 x a ) = sin[lφx a )+ψ]. 1)
Heeφx a )isthecoulombpotentialgeneatedbycuentcomponentj 0 x a ) = cos[lφx a )+ψ]j 0 x a ), and ψ is the constant of integation. The exteio solution fo a pointlike chage, e, in spheical coodinates, x a = c t,,θ,ϕ), Ã 0 = sin ) le +ψ. 14) Since field equations ae non-linea, the supeposition pinciple doesn t wok, and asymptotic on spatial infinity should be the same fo any matte distibution. To find espective gavitational potential G ab and electomagnetic potential, one has to escale the speed of light. Really, on spatial infinity ds 2 1 G abdx a dx b = cos 2 ψc 2 dt2 d 2 2 dθ 2 +sin 2 θdϕ 2 ), hence, one may intoduce obsevable speed of light, c, whee c = c cosψ; then metics H ab is defined accodingly, ds 2 1 = H abdx a dx b, whee x a = ct,x α ). In the case consideed above, le ds 2 1 = cos2 +ψ) c 2 dt 2 2 dθ 2 +sin 2 θdϕ 2 ). 15) cos 2 ψ Fo inteval ds 2 la a dx a one obtains, ds 2 = cosψ) 1 Ã 0 cdt Ãαdx α, 16) whee A a is electomagnetic potential in the standad units. In consideed above spheically-symmetic case, A 0 ) = sin le +ψ). 17) lcosψ 4
Fo le one obtains fom 15) and 17), H 00 = 1 2letanψ +O 2 ); 18) A 0 = l 1 tanψ + e +O 2 ). 19) Quantizing the Electical Chage Conside flat spacetime with motionless electical chage, descibed in spheicalcoodinatesystem. TakeÃa = [ sin Φ),0,0,0 ]. Equation5)isequivalent to the following, Φ = 4πl 2 c 2 µ 2 cos Φ +µ 1sin Φ ) ; 20) hee pime denotes diffeentiation ove. One may take the following model of the cuent 7) fo the paticle. a) Fo the density take µ 1 +iµ 2 = p2 4πl 2 c 2 actan Ãa à expiψ) a +ψ ). 21) sin actan Ãa à a +ψ Hee Ãa = G ab à b, and p, ψ ae eal nomalizing constants, found fom 4). b) Fo fou velocity U a take U a = à a Ãb à b. 22) c) Define bounday, S, of the paticle by equation, ) actan Ãa à a +ψ S = 0. 2) 5
It is assumed that in the exteio of the bounday µ 1 +iµ 2 = 0. Solving 20) with 21), one obtains, Ã = sin C sinp) p ψ ) and Ã+ = sin a +b), espectively inteio and exteio solutions. Hee C, a, and b ae constants of integation. Define bounday of the paticle, as a suface of the sphee = R. Then, fom 2) it follows, a) sinpr) = 0. Demanding continuity of the potential togethe with its fist deivative, one obtains two elations: b) b = a R ψ; c) a = CRcospR). Fom a) it follows that two cases take place: i) a = C 2πn with R = 2πn and ii) a = C π2n+1) p p p with R = π2n+1). In both p cases n = 0,1,2,... Fo the exteio potential one obtains two banches, coesponding to cases i) and ii) above. Assuming that both banches have the same asymptotic on spatial infinity, one obtains, C = πn, N = 0,±1,±2,... On the othe hand, demanding that mass-chage be finite, one has to put N = ±1. Thus, in the standad units, intoducing e, chage of poton, one obtains, A 01) = l 1 cos 1 ψsin N 2n)le ) +ψ ; 24) A 02) = l 1 cos 1 ψsin N 2n+1)le ) +ψ. 25) Both banches oiginate fom the following inteio R) solution: A 0 ) = l 1 cos 1 ψsin πn sinp) p ψ Hee p = π 2 l 1 e 1. The espective mass-chage density is µ 1 iµ 2 = p2 expiψ) 4l 2 c 2 6 ). 26) vp) sinπvp)), 27)
and it doesn t depend on N. Thus, one may take N = 1. In 27) vx) = sinx x. Expanding solutions 24) and 25), one obtains, 2n ) ) 2 w 6 ) + 28) A 01) = A + e ) 2n+1 s 2n 2 2n+1 2n ) 2n+1 + 29) A 02) = A e s 2 ) 2 + w 6 Hee A = l 1 tanψ, and the following definitions ae used fo chages, e = π 2 l 1 p 1 ; 0) s = π 4 l 1 p 2 tanψ ; 1) w = π 6 l 1 p ; 2) o, expessing p,ψ, and l though e,s, and w, one obtains, p 2 = π4 e w ; ) s tanψ = ; 4) ew l = w e e. 5) The spectum of chages consists of two pats; the fist one is q 2n = 2n e, n = 1,2,...), and the second one is q 2n +1 = 2n +1 e n = 0,1,2,...), these coespond to quaks and leptons. 4 Quantizing the Mass Insofa, paamete ψ isn t fixed yet. To fix it, one may use 4) togethe with quantization ule fo chage. Fom 4) and 27) it follows m 1k) im 2k) = πexpiψ) α pl 2 c 2 k ; 6) 7
α k = πk 0 x 2 vx)dx sinπvx)). 7) Hee k = 2n fo electical chage 2n e, and k = 2n + 1 fo electical chage 2n+1 e. On the othe hand, m 22n) = π2 2n), and m pl 2 c 2 22n+1) = π2 2n+1). It follows, then, sinψ 2n = π2n) α 2n, and sinψ 2n+1 = π2n+1) α 2n+1. Hence, one obtains spectum of masses, pl 2 c 2 m 2n = m 2n +1 = e πlc 2 e πlc 2 α 2 2n 4π 2 n 2 ; n = 1,2,... 8) α 2 2n +1 π2 2n +1) 2 ; n = 0,1,2,... 9) hee masses m 2n coespond to chages q 2n, and masses m 2n +1 coespond to chages q 2n +1. Fo the fist thee alphas one obtains, α 1 6.27;α 2 0.2;α 9.5. The espective masses fo two quaks ae m 1 and m2 =.2m e, whee m e is mass of an electon. =.059m e 5 Conclusion In this wok we obtained spectum of electical chages, coesponding to leptons, e,µ,τ), and quaks u,d,s,c,t,b). It appeas, that spectum of masses 8) and 9) doesn t descibe quaks s,c,t,b). On the othe hand, coect spectum of electical chages allows to believe that the analogous esult may follow fom the Kaluza-Klein theoy without assumption of topological closeness of the exta-dimension. Definition of density 21) is made accodingly in ode to obtain the simpliest diffeential equation fo potential 20). A moe consistent and ealistic 8
appoach would be consideing constant densities, µ 1 and µ 2. The pice to be paid fo that is to deal with non-linea equation fo potential. We thought of doing that as unwothy, since the theoy anyway is just a model of Kaluza- Klein theoy, so that the effot of solving non-linea equation fo potential should be made in fames of Kaluza-Klein. The masses ae calculated fo isolated paticles. In ealistic situations of many inteacting paticles constant ψ should be found fo the complete closed system which would shift the masses but not the electical chages). 6 Acknowledgments I wish to thank Bois S Tsielson fo helping me with numeic computations.
