What is the National Geospatial Technology Center of Excellence (GeoTech)? A National Science Foundation Funded group of educators with a common passion to bring Geospatial Technology to Learners. Creator of the GTCM for the US Department of Labor, revised Fall 2014. Creator and owner of the Program Assessment Tool. Designers and creators of the Model Courses. Producer and designer of High Quality Professional Development. GeoEd East and West Coast Webinars Mentoring National Map of Geospatial Programs. National Geospatial Educator Awards. http://geotechcenter.org

How do Standards Effect GIST The US Department of Labors, Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM) provides a look at the skills required for geospatial jobs. The GTCM provides a description of foundational knowledge. The GTCM is one of the tools used in the development of the GISP exam.

Are We at Revolutionary Change in Geospatial Technology? Who will be map creators of the future? How will the creation of spatial data representations change? Who are the data gathers? How will the geospatial community change? How will we meet this evolving and changing field? What is a Geographical Scientist and Geographical Technologist?
How will Data Collection Change the Face of GIST? Will everyone be able to do field data collection? How will data collection change the jobs of the geospatial technican workforce? Bad data means bad maps! Anyone with a GPS enabled smart device has become a data collector. How do we take secure data? What are the accuracy requirements? Do we need centimeter accuracy for the location of physical objects or will a couple feet be just fine? Citizen Scientist will be the first line data collectors? Who will be the editors? Live data Mapping? How does Google know when traffic is slow? Open Street Map is the Wikipedia of Mapping! Who curates it? The Cartography of Open Street Map can be changed by the user, for the user s needs. It can be edited in ArcMap! Some of our projects: Historical markers Historical Civil War Battlefields Winery and micro-brewery (need to develop micro-distilleries) Tree classification Safety and security with placement of light standards.

Will Unmanned Vehicles Change How Imagery/Data is Collected? Can I take real data with $55 UAV? What are the pros and cons? Can I really fly it? Platform Stability? Camera Quality? Oblique non-georeferenced images? How does it work? UAVs collect images on a memory card (micro SD) or internal memory and uses a USB connection Loaded into a computer and stitch the image together, with free software Do image analysis in mapping software

Do I Really Need to Learn Python? Is GIST becoming more computerized? How often do you do a repetitive task? Is Model Builder a thing of the past? How hard is it to learn? Is Python only used in ArcMap? What is the difference from being a Python programmer and a Python automation process creator?
Open Source vs Enterprise! Is there a place for Open Source Software in a production environment? Open Source does not mean FREE. Can a complete GIS system be developed only on Open Source platform? Desktop Software Servers Data What are the advantage of Commercial Software?
A Case Study: Art and GIST Jeffersonville, IN has developed a program of public art. How do you make this information available to the community and visitors? With the recently (2014) opening of the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge. Downtown has seen increased numbers of people visiting. A Journal Story Map has been created which combined photographs with locations on an Open Street Map basemap. Sub-sections were developed for areas such as functional art, sculptures, painted utility boxes, painted crosswalks, etc. Additional information was added to Open Street Map and errors were corrected to make Open Street Map more functional and a better basemap. http://arcg.is/1gvtmww
