ACS Shanghai International Chemical Sciences Chapter 2014 Annual Report DESCRIPTION OF CHAPTER: Shanghai International Chemical Sciences Chapter was established in 2011 by a group of oversea returnees from US. The group aims to serve the community by building a chemistry network in Shanghai and Yantze river delta. The primary goals for the chapter are connecting the people, education and making chemistry fun. The chapter is featured with strong industry connection from both pharmaceutical R&D centers and CROs. Number of Chapter members 30-100 2014 Leadership team Jingye Zhou (Chair, since 2014) Luoheng Qin (Secretary, 2015) Quan Zhou (Treasury, since 2014) Hongyu Chen (Director, since 2014) Andrew Feng (Director, 2015) Minmin Wang (past chair, 2011-1013) 1

KEY 2014 ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 1) Co-organized the 9 th International Symposium for Chinese Medicinal Chemist with Chinese Pharmaceutical Association during Aug 17-20 in Shengyang, China. ACS Shanghai Chapter contributed to the organization of the ACS session Novel Approaches to the Treatment of Diabetes of the ISCMC to present the frontier of drug discovery and development for treating diabetes. 2) Initiated and led local ACS meeting in partnership with Corey Institute of Biomedical Research. The first event was held from October 16th to October 17th with the theme of major challenges and opportunities in the discovery of new medicines for infectious and oncologic diseases. Speakers from top institutions in US and China highlighted the current trends in the discovery of new medicines for infectious and oncologic diseases with case studies at the symposium. 3) Hosted the chemistry fun festival with Fudan University on Oct 19 th. The fun festival brought chemistry related education to kids in the local community with lots of fun. The festival is highly successful with potential to expand the impact of chemistry education and ACS brand across the Shanghai community. 4) Conducted the Chemistry Olympiad Local test and National test in Shanghai for the first time which 2

allows the eligible US students in Shanghai to have the opportunity to show their excellence in Chemistry and compete for Chemistry Olympiad. The test was held in partnership with Shanghai American School. 3
