One can group the numbers as (1-)+(-4)+(5-6)+... +007. This gives 100 numbers of -1 plus the final 007 for a sum of 1004. It is also possible to look at 1++5+7 +...+007 and from that subtract +4+6+8+... +006 This gives allows the student to use Gauss s method of finding the average of each grouping and get the individual sums..
