MEMBREX < Ready-to-use Syringe Filters < 1 up to 100 ml Minimizes Loss of Sample Minimale Holdup-Volume Low Adsorption Optimized Shape
MEMBREX Syringe filters Offering syringe filters in various shapes combined with different membranes allows the user to choose an optimal filter unit to filter 1 ml up to 1.5 l. The design of the filter results in a 15 % increase in filter area. The housing is made of Polypropylene which is compatible with most commonly used solvents. Connecters to the syringe are Luer Lock female. Others on request. Choosing the smallest size you minimize loss of sample, waist and costs! MEMBREX 4 The smallest one can be used for filtration of < 1 ml, available with membranes of CA, PTFE and Nylon in 0.2 und 0.45 µm poresize. MEMBREX 4, and Filtration Volume Holdup-Volume Diameter < 1 ml < 5 µl 4 mm ml µl mm ml µl mm MEMBREX PTFE The hydrophobic membrane made of Polytetrafluorethylene allows air to pass and retains water. These MEMBREX are used for vent applications and as a contamination protection. The broad compatibility allows filtration even of aggressive organic solvents. MEMBREX 50 The largest filter allows filtration up to 5 l, available with a CA-membrane used for aqueous solutions or a hydrophobic PTFE membrane. These MEMBREX are used for ventilation applications and as a contamination protection. Some users integrate it in the tube of a vacuum pump to protect it from aqueous contaminations. The broad compatibility allows filtration even of aggressive organic solvents. Connectors are hose barb.
Safety and Pressure Stability Do not exceed the pressure, temperature or chemical compatibility recommendations. High pressures can be obtained when using syringes. The smaller the syringe, the higher the pressure that can be generated. As a general guide, the following pressures can be obtained by hand with the syringes indicated: 20ml - 30 psi 10ml - 50 psi 5ml - 75 psi 3ml - 100 psi 1ml - 150 psi. 14,5038 psi = 1 bar 1 psi = 0.068947 bar Each user should determine the pressure they can generate by hand with a specific size syringe and take appropriate safety precautions not to exceed the recommended rating for the device used. If these limitations are exceeded, bursting of the device may occur, resulting in loss of property or personal injury. We are just in a process of changing our syringe filters from housings that are tested as a minimum with 5 bar to a different shape that is more stable against pressure. Our new filters are tested with a minimum effective burst pressure of > 14 kg/cm² (1 bar = 1.02 kg/cm²). MEMBREX CA with Cellulose Acetate Membrane Low binding Hydrophilic Strength and dimension stability Uniform pore structure and size MEMBREX CA Often used for sterilization or clarification of even the most viscous proteinaceous solutions. Applications Sterilization or filtration of biological fluids, serum or media additives, Sample preparation of protein-based HPLC solutions, High throughput, low binding filter units for nonsterile aqueous filtrations, Filter probe and hybridization solutions to reduce backgrounds, Protein and enzyme filtration, sterilization
MEMBREX Nylon Available with the new housing that is pressure stable. MEMBREX designed for filtration with higher pressure up to 10 bar (140 psi), minimum effective burst presssure.7 bar. Lot release criteria include tests concerning Integrity, Flow rate performance, burst pressure, HPLC testing and leakage. The plastics passed USP Class VI biosafety tests. Applications Perfect for filtering aqueous or organic HPLC samples, buffer and serum Low extractables No wetting agents Higher dirt handling capacity compared to Polyester Properties of Nylon Nylon membrane is hydrophilic and is a good choice for aqueous and/or organic samples. The membrane offers good chemical resistance to most common HPLC solvents; however, it has limited resistance to acids, bases, halogenated hydrocarbons, aldehydes and strong oxidising agents. The most common application is HPLC sample filtration. Not recommended when low protein binding is important - adsorption of protein >100 µg/cm²
MEMBREX PET with Polyester-Membrane Good choice to use for filtration of samples for HPLC, GC, CE, IC and TOC-Analytics No extractables in the membrane no impurities Low non specific binding MEMBREX PET There is no need any longer to use different filters for aqueous and nonpolar samples. In the past confounding the filters caused a lot of trouble. High range of chemical compatibility, resistant to a wide range of chemicals. It is comparable to teflon that is usually much more expensive. Another advantage the membrane it is hydrophilic without any wetting treatments. There are no extractables because the membrane is produced without any surfacespecific substances. In the first step, thin polyester film is exposed to collimated, charged particles from a nuclear pile. As these particles pass through the polyester material, they leave sensitized tracks. In the second step, the polymer tracks are dissolved with an etching solution to form cylindrical pores. Varying the temperature and strength of the etching solution, and the exposure time to it, produces precisely controlled pore sizes. It is only 10 µm thin, with a smooth, glass-like surface. Low protein binding of < 5 µg/cm² prohibits absorption of cells being filtered. Negligible absorption/adsorption, maximizes critical solution recovery. POLYESTER or Nylon To choose Nylon or Polyester depends on the application. If removal of dirt is important - Nylon is the best choice, if low protein binding is needed we recommend Polyester.
MEMBREX PTFE Polytetraflouroethylene supported with polypropylene Membrane is stretched biaxially to form the porous structure. PTFE-membranes are naturally hydrophobic. A pretreatment with alcohol is possible to allow filtration of aquaeous solvents. Hydrophobic PTFE-membrane Tortuous pore structure laminated to a polypropylene backing for improved strength. Best choice for air venting and gas filtration. Often used in pipettes to protect them from contamination. Available for Pipetteboy, Pipettus and Sarstedt. Superior chemical resistance clarification and sterilization filtration of chemically aggressive liquids such as solvents, acids and strong bases. Can be used at temperatures of up to 100 o C. Attention : Autoclaving can destroy the binding between support and PTFE. We introduced the MEMBREX now that we sell as standard items. On request we can deliver MEMBREX with every membrane you need. Please check the following requirements: We need an order for at least 10 000 units. Housings of the MEMBREX are the same than in the standard version 4, or mm diameter.
