Introduction A geographic information situation Level national: Cadastre: Ministry of Economy and Finance Environment: Ministry of Environment, rural and Marine Geology: Institute of Geology Topographic map: National Geographic Institute. Level regional Spain is divided into 17 regions plus Ceuta & Melilla on the African continent and 50 provinces: Each and every region has a cartographic department Level Local municipality made cartographic, GIS,.. Multilinguism 3

Introduction example of a collective project based on the cooperation of actors in Spain: Government bodies at national, regional and local levels Private companies Universities Citizens to offer a wide range of resources related with Geographic Information 4

Introduction Who is the responsible of project? This project is coordinated by the National Geographic Council, a governmental body, where SDI specialized Commission defines the project launched a Working Group for the in 2002 Meeting 3 times a year SDI conference 1 time a year National Geographic Council SDI Commision SDI Working Group 5

The Spanish NSDI: Which are the members of National Geographic Council? The participation in Spain is very high, Collective project: an SDI of SDIs Two parts Spanish SDI project, there are a lot of actors that take part to define Spanish SDI Geoportal is developing by IGN and Zaragoza University 6

Geoportal is based on cooperation and openness with consensus and experiences according to INSPIRE guidelines, OGC and ISO 19100 standards. www.idee.es 7

Bordering Geoportal The projects are compliant with ISO 19100 standards, OGC specifications and it follows the principles and criteria established in INSPIRE Directive for Europe The four countries are very actively involved in developing a set of web services to fulfil their users requirements and to try to implement the INSPIRE Directive philosophy and prescriptions, including the set of INSPIRE Implementing Rules. They develop services like metadata catalogue and viewer 11

Horizontal interoperability Collaboration since 2009 Whitout any agreement or contract Measures for interoperability - Mutilinguism - Crossed links Crossed links FR Crossed links PT Crossed links AN 12

Horizontal interoperability Measures for interoperability - WMS in viewers: In Portuguese, French, Spanish and Andorran viewers they are direct links by default to Portuguese, Spanish and Andorran WMS, to make easier the combined display of each national cartography 13

Horizontal interoperability Multiple client - From some clients it is possible to discovery GI of other countries. 14

Annual Workshop on SDI is changing and next steps From Spanish SDI Workshop (Jornadas de la IDE de España) to SDI Iberian Workshop (Jornadas Ibéricas de IDE) PT, AD, ES participation, a FR representation is kindly invited JIIDE 2010: Lisbon, October 2010 To define a new Road Map, based on consensus (RF, PT, ES, AD) To progress in the seamless integration of the 4 SDIs 15

Conclusions Collaboration has been done without any budget, any formal agreement More attention must be paid to horizontal interoperability Nordic SDI Initiative Multinational interoperability Objective To have an European seamless SDI Administration borders must not be knowledge borders 16
