SECTION A Q1. Fill in the blanks: (10 marks) 1. A map of a particular area such as a city shows its main features as they would appear in real. 2. If lava spreads out a long way then it will form a fairly flat area called a lava plateau. 3. Focus is the point from where the earthquake starts. 4. Ozone layer absorbs about 95 % of the solar radiation. 5. Weathering breaks down the rocks at the Earth s surface. 6. Most of the raw material used for making things are obtained from locally or from the nearest market. 7. The goods produced is known as the _Output. 8. In Pakistan, the Tarbela and Mangla dams have created reservoirs.. 9. In cold deserts, it is very cold as well as dry. 10. Natural environment is a combination of relief features and topography. Q2. Identify the following: (5 marks) a) Lines running from North to South on a map Lines of longitude b) Line going northward from the Equator, follow it through West Africa. Western Europe and the UK. Prime Meridian c) An area fairly high above the sea level is a Plain d) Lava erupts from this part of the volcano. Vent e) Existing sedimentary or igneous rocks whose structures have changed by heat or pressure. Metamosrphic Q3. State whether the below terms are true or false, and if false state the reason (5 Marks) a. Natural environment is consists of everything made by humans _natural vegetation and relief features. b. Earth s structure has four layers. 3 core, mantle and crust c. Core is made up of solid rocks. _molten rocks d. Plantations are areas set up to grow crops on a small scale. Large scale e. a cross- section of a diagram shows a block of land as if it has been cut out of the countryside. We can see the cross- section of an area

Q4. Label the countries of South Asia in the map given below. (5 Marks) AFGHANISTAN BHUTAN PAKISTAN INDIA BANGLADESH SRI LANKA NEPAL

SECTION B Q1. Describe the four basic types of landforms. (2 Marks) Plains, valleys, mountains, plateus Plains,: land fairly above sea level Plateau: an area of fairly flat land that is high above sea level. Mountain: land formation due to collision of crustal plates Valleys:the fairly level surface if the land but the river has formed a valley. Q2. Describe the consequences of a collision between the crustal plates. ( /05 ) Folds in the rocks near the edge of the second plate Cracks in the rocks which may result in the land rising or sinking creating block and rift valley Faults in the rocks where magma erupts and causes volcanoes and lava plateaux. Eathquakes Hot water may also bubble up to the surface creating boiling pools and steam. Q3. Define weathering and three ways in which weathering occurs. ( /6) the process of breaking down rocks into smaller fragments. Chemical WeatheringL When mineral in the rocks react with oxygen and carbon dioxide. The rocks weeken and break apart. Biological weathering:.this is the breakdown of rocks at or near the Earth s surface by licing things. Tree roots grow thicker and longer. They widen and deepen cracks in the rocks causing rocks to split and breaks apart. Physical Weathering: This process breaks down rocks into smaller fragments without any chemical changes to their minerals. These fragments of rock fall down and slowly, over a long time, the gorge becomes wider. Q4. Differentiate between weather and climate. Give examples. ( /2) Weather can changes in seconds, minutes or days. Climate takes a long period of time. For e.g. snowfall, rainfall, sunny weather. Climatic zones are defined in the world. Q5. Discuss the role of Ozone layer. ( /5) _it protects from the solar radiation. Absorbs 95% of the UV rays. It saves us from various skin diseases. If ozone wouldn t have been there, then the rays would increase global warming. Trees would burn and die due to excessive sunlight. Glaciers would melt and sea level would rise, creating floods. Q6. What do you think is required to change a human environment into a natural environment?( /2) Deforestation, construction of roads, buildings, etc.

Q7. Explain industries as a system with the help of a diagram. ( /3) Things required to start up an industry. They would vary from a small scale indutry to a large scale industry. Process: the process of creating the end product. Output: it is the final product that is sent to the market to be sold.
