Dissemination
Nuclear Moments Database: wwww-nds.iaea.org/nuclearmoments Online access to printed compilations (Stone etc) Access to references (DOI, NSR links) Objective: keep the database up-to-date on a regular basis 10 Future improvements: search criteria, plotting capabilities
International Network of Nuclear Structure and Decay Data Evaluators (NSDD) International Network of Data Centres with the task of evaluating nuclear structure and decay properties of all nuclides with a given mass chain number A Mass chains evaluations: Isotopes with the same A produced through n->p are evaluated together to produce the Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF) format The ENSDF database is hosted at http://www.nndc.bnl.gov/ensdf/ available also at http://www-nds.iaea.org A-chain evaluations are published in Nuclear Data Sheets Unevaluated nuclear structure and decay data are compiled in the ENSDF format in the XUNDL database http://www.nndc.bnl.gov/xundl/ NDS IAEA coordinates the network P. Dimitriou, INDC, 3 June 2014
International Network of Nuclear Structure and Decay Data Evaluators (NSDD) 16 Data Centres % mass chains FTE Funding USA: 6 ~80% ~5.6 National (DoE) Europe: 3 ~6% ~0.9 India: 2 China: 2 61 mass chains ~2.2 None ~20% Japan: 1 Australia: 1 IAEA: 1 Coordination-Dissemination In 2015, 2 non-us DCs withdrew (France+Kuwait), 1 (Romania) joined
Other reasons for concern output of mass chains decreasing 10-year cycle not reached Retirement of experienced evaluators Loosing expertise in ENSDF evaluations International contribution in decline Problem 1: Lack of funding Problem 2: Attracting good evaluators
IAEA Financial Support 2014-2015: seed funds Mass chain evaluations: Sukhjeet Dhindsa (final: 2015-2016) Khalifeh AbuSaleem (final: 2015-2016) Lalkovski (ended) Erturk (ended) Timar (ended) Negret (ended) New codes: Sukhjeet Dhindsa (RadD/r0 tables) Michael Birch (JGAMUT) Horizontal compilation: Theo Mertzimekis (Nuclear Moments database)
Funding Opportunities in Europe I National: practically non-existent Non-national: competitive - EU through Horizon 2020: EURAMET-Energy, etc - EU through ENSAR2 - EU through EURATOM (?) IAEA CRPs / seed-funds (mass-chains): clearly not enough and can only happen once
Funding Opportunities in Europe II Different organization/prioritization is required for European NSDD: - Less emphasis on mass chains: focus on Horizontal Evaluations/Individual nuclides - Driven by relevance to Data Applications - Connect evaluation with proposed measurement -Collaborations/Joint proposals: integrate data evaluation in proposed work
Funding Opportunities in Europe III Engagement of Stakeholders: top-bottom and bottom-up approach - large- and small-scale European facilities: Examples: MSU in US is getting involved; RIKEN is getting involved - ENSAR2 - NuPECC - Other expert communities: nuclear astrophysics, medical physics
Actions - form collaborations/joint proposals with NSDD evaluation as integral part of the work - ENSAR2: contact Work-Package leaders - NuPECC: nuclear data in long-range plan; prepare document - US partnership: similar activities (workshops, documents etc) - Nuclear Astrophysics: contact their data experts - Revive and expand European NSDD consortium
IAEA contribution - coordination support - assistance in preparation of documents of support - organization of outreach workshops (ICTP) and advanced training workshops For example: attract broader european participation in upcoming ICTP Workshop
Joint ICTP-IAEA Workshop on Nuclear Structure and Decay Data 2 weeks, 22 August 2 September 2015, Trieste, Italy New model: Emphasis on experimental techniques, facilities and new data Invite lecturers from leading worldwide experimental facilities for lectures Hands-on courses: Evaluation of nuclides measured at the leading facilities Extensive demonstration/use of codes, editor Needs Advertising in major labs/facilities to get students/post-docs interested
