Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 1 Universal Astrology By Sam Geppi Anchoring Techniques In Universal Astrology we are working with anchoring principles and anchoring techniques. Below are the first group of anchoring techniques that will be covered in this first group of Universal Astrology classes. These anchoring principles are related to the planets and the signs. In the next six-week group of classes we will explore anchoring techniques related to the astrology houses It's Elemental - Signs - This technique addresses imbalances that occur when there are no planets in certain sign elements or many planets in one sign element. Method: Count the number of planets in each sign element. Notice the imbalances, either over represented or under represented. Even though this sounds like a simple technique, it is very powerful commensurate to your understanding of the elements. For example: The elements relate to a physical process, psychological disposition, a sense organ, a Caste, a positive and negative mode of expression and many other things.
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 2 In the above chart notice there are no fire or earth signs represented. All the planets are in water and air signs. Right away this should should alert you to a deep imbalance in this person that will be difficult and that must be addressed. Given this we will correctly assume that there will be imbalances in both water and air. Therefore, emotional extremes and intellectual/mental extremes will be present in this person's life. Excessive anxiety and intellectual fear (unbalanced air Vata) will be present also, emotional fantasizing, attachments and projections will also be present (unbalanced water Kapha). In the midst of these imbalances there will be a lack of healthy discipline, courage and focused action qualities of fire, and also a lack of practical steps and realistic ideas that allow one to progress through fulfilling, hard work and establishing a paradigm of material security in their life qualities of Earth. All of these traits are confirmed by my experience with this individual. In general, water and air signs are most related to the creative arts, especially music. This individual is quite an accomplished musician and also a devoted spiritual practitioner. Yet, she has never been able to stay on a committed path to career success, working in the service industry (restaurants) with the romanticized dream of being an opera singer (which he has the talent
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 3 to accomplish). She has very good home and mother karmas, as indicated by the Jupiter/Moon conjunction in her fourth house. She has been supported in one way or another by her mother for her entire life. Emotionally, financially and often living in her mother's home when she needs to. Her big frustrations in life are at not being able to manifest the God-given talent that she has to be an opera singer. Emotional problems (excessive water) caused by anxieties and irrational fears (excessive air) undermine the discipline (fire) and practicality (Earth) that would allow her to manifest these things. Remedy: Strengthening fire and Earth qualities in her life. Daily routines and spiritual practices must be performed in spite of how you feel. Physical discipline such as yoga are especially important. (to strengthen fire) Also, the path of service, (Earth) which allows one to step out of their own emotional problems. The Ying/Yang effect - Signs - This technique assesses the masculine/feminine dynamic in each astrology chart. Particularly the comparison between masculine and feminine planets and whether they Tenant masculine or feminine signs. Method: Assess which masculine and feminine planets are in the same environment as their gender and which ones are not. Consider an exception to occur when a planet resides in its own sign, or exaltation sign, regardless of gender. Also, just generally count if there are more planets in masculine or feminine signs to assess if the person has more of a Ying or Yang approach to life.
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 4 In the above chart every planet except Venus is in a feminine sign. Since the Moon and Venus are the only feminine planets, the moon will be the only planet in its correct gender. Yet there is an exception for Jupiter. Even though Jupiter is in a feminine sign and he is a masculine planet, he rules that feminine sign so his integrity as a masculine planet maintains. In general, this person has a strong predominance of feminine energy, given that every planet is in a feminine sign except Venus. These traits are confirmed by this person. This is a man who is very family oriented, also quite career driven and successful. Recently he has become an astrology student and looked to expand his business successes and opportunities into industries related to serving the poor, and issues related to hunger and children. (Things related to the moon). Yet, on some level this person has quite a bit of hesitation about how to accomplish these things. His overall masculine integrity and confidence as a man, in relationship to women, is somewhat tenuous. The Planetary Person Effect - Planets - This technique acknowledges the one or two dominant planetary energies in each individual and contrasts them with those of others. It is especially good for relationship astrology.
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 5 Method: Determine dominant planetary energies within each person using a combination of factors (This is somewhat tricky and relies upon intuition as well as methods). Prioritize the ruling planet, a prominent dispositor. Keep in mind that these dominant planets are not necessarily positive they are just prominent.
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 6 The chart above has a very prominent Jupiter and a prominent Mars. Not only is this person ruled by Jupiter, but Jupiter is in the first house and the ruler of Mercury and Venus. Also, Mars is very prominent in his own sign of Aries in the very creative fifth house. This is the chart of the screen actor Paul Newman. Both Jupiter and Mars are masculine planets. Mars especially is related to tough guys, fighters etc. Paul Newman has become famous for his masculine good looks, and tough, yet charming persona. (Mercury and Venus in the first) His most famous characters combined a certain tough guy quality with a mischievous, charming and even philosophical nature. Cool Hand Luke and the movies with Robert Redford especially come to mind. In addition to a career as an actor he has pursued many other Mars/Jupiter type of affairs. He was into car racing, a very dangerous, yet exciting pursuit Mars related. Also, he is very much into philanthropy and expansive causes, and just making money through independent businesses related to Jupiter. Interestingly, most of these businesses are related to food products - Popcorn, cookies, barbecue sauce and things of that nature. Food is ruled by the second house. His second house ruler Saturn is exalted
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 7 in the 11 th house of ambition. It is very deeply exalted in the Nakshatra of Vishaka, ruled by who? -- Jupiter. The chart above is that of his wife, Joanne Woodward. This chart has a deeply exalted Mars in the first house, the sign of Capricorn. Also, there are five planets in Saturn ruled signs. It is safe to conclude that she is a Mars/Saturn type of person. It is also easy to see why her and Paul Newman have gotten along for as long as they have. That common Mars theme in their lives and psychological makeup will certainly strengthen their relationship. Mars is a difficult planet to deal with unless the other person can match it. His Mars in Aries finds an equally courageous and powerful match with her exalted Mars in Capricorn. I confess that I don't know as much about her life as I do Paul Newman simply because she was not as famous or prolific as a public person. Yet, in her own right she was a famous and beautiful actress Sun/Moon/Venus in the 2 nd house (the face) shows beauty. She sacrificed her career for family once her and Paul Newman started having children. Notice a few other interesting connections. Both of them also have Mercury in the first house. This makes them both good actors (Mercury is playful, adaptable and able to speak and mimic very well), but important for their relationship, he is the planet that insists upon untangling the details and communicating clearly. His prominent placement in the first house of each
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 8 chart shows that communication issues will be important for both of them. Also, they each have a masculine planet joining Mercury in that first house. Remember, Mercury is the most adaptable planet. He tends to take on the personality of the planets he joins. In Paul Newman's case, Mercury not only joins Jupiter, he also joins Venus a peaceful planet. In fact both Jupiter and Venus are the planets of peacemaking and they sandwich Paul Newman's Mercury. So, even though he is a tough guy on the outside, he is probably very reasonable and willing to compromise and make peace. But the other person would need to respect his need for freedom and independence first. Joanne Woodward will be able to do that given her powerful Mars nature. As long as she feel secure, (Saturn ruled) she will not care what he does. Her powerful Saturn qualities are also crucial here. Her willingness to sacrifice her career and personal ambition for her family is very important to this relationship staying together. Many Hollywood relationships ended in divorce, etc. once kids got to a certain age, etc. Capricorn is probably the most family oriented sign in the zodiac. For her, it was a no-brainer to sacrifice her career to raise a family. A few deeper details that I use to assess relationships. You always want to assess the relationship between Jupiter and Saturn in people's synastry charts. Notice how Paul Newman's Jupiter is right on Joanne Woodward Saturn. His hopefulness, expansion and optimism helps her overcome the pessimism and fears of Saturn, her ruling planet in the 12 th house. Her Jupiter in Taurus casts an almost perfect trine to his Sun in Capricorn, which also joins Ketu, the South node. Paul Newman has faced self esteem issues just like the rest of us, you better believe it. The Sun/ South node conjunction in the second house confers this. Yet Joanne Woodward's Jupiter graciously extends optimism and hope from the sign of Taurus. Also, the Sun is Paul Newman's ninth house ruler, the planet of religion and philosophies. His wife's support has taught him deep, spiritual lessons. When the Jupiter's of the couple are not orienting in a favorable way, this long-term support, optimism and hope, bogs down. Their relationships gets stuck in philosophical differences, rather than being one that grows in deeper meaning and one that has each partner growing together around that deeper meaning. Of course, Jupiter is also the giver of children. Children are often the catalyst around which the couple either develops this deeper and common value system/ philosophy, or separates around those issues. Children are just the way that Jupiter manifests in relationships
Universal Astrology Anchoring Techniques-1 Sam Geppi 2008 9 his deeper goal, as always, is to deepen our understanding and wisdom. If not shown by children directly, assess the shared philosophy of the relationship by Jupiter. These last three will be discussed in later classes: "Similarities and Differences" - Planets - This technique is very important for understanding conjunctions and exchanges (neutral reception) of two or more planets. Understanding where planets agree and disagree is at the heart of this technique. The Rhythm of Opposites - Signs and Planets - This technique harmonizes extremes in our personality by uniting them with their opposite. This is especially useful for psychological issues that come with astrological sign imbalances. The Greatest Strength / Biggest Weakness Effect - Planets, Signs and Houses - This technique seeks to harmonize the imbalances that occur based on "strong" planets, signs or houses.
