HS100 vs. Biosystems A15 Advantage HumaStar Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 100 are the wash station and reagent refrigeration. The wash station saves money and time. Money: A15 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Time: On A15 manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test was run. Reagent refrigeration leads to reliable results, longer on-board and calibration stability. On A15 the user either has to place the reagent in the refrigerator after every run, but he will loose time doing this. If he leaves the reagent on the instrument he will waste reagent when it gets warm and he has to throw it away - he is loosing money. A15 has flexible tray for reagents and samples. However the total number of samples and reagents that the user can place on the instrument is higher on HumaStar. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. Equivalent Throughput: A15 has a maximum throughput which is 150 t/h, whereas HumaStar 100 can only reach a maximum of 100 t/h. But the throughput of HumaStar 100 is constant for 1- and 2-shot methods. In a typical mix A15 will only reach 95 t/h. => The throughput is equivalent on both instruments. Biosystems and Human both offer instruments, reagents, and validated methods out of one hand. Advantage A15 Biosystems sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument. Page 58

HS100/200 vs. Roche Cobas C111 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage Cobas Explanation The main difference is that Cobas C111 is a closed instrument. HumaStar 100/200 are open instruments. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Because Human has also preinstalled and validated methods, Cobas C111 does not have an advantage in that respect. There are three other massive advantages of HumaStar: -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 8 samples can be placed on Cobas C111. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -The HumaStar has a wash station, which is much more cost and time efficient than disposable cuvettes on Cobas C111 (for explanation also see Biosystems A15). -HumaStar 100 and 200 are much faster than Cobas C111. The throughput of Cobas is only 60 t/h and much closer to HumaStar 80 than HumaStar 100 or 200. The possibility of automation of the laboratory workflow is equivalent on both instruments. HumaStar and Cobas C111 both can use primary tubes, they both have a built in sample barcode reader, both instruments have a standardized (ASTM) LIS protocol, and both instrument support continuous loading. Roche reagents are ready to use in prefilled and barcode labeled bottles. Handling of reagent bottles is easier. The reputation of Roche is very good. Page 61

HS200 vs. Roche Cobas C311 Item Advantage Human Advantage Roche Cobas C311 Features Price of instrument and reagents Low water consumption (<2 vs. 12 l/h) Low energy consumption (<200 vs. 1500 VA) Small footprint (width 69 vs. 134cm) Low weight (51 vs. 270 kg) LIS via RJ-45 (vs. RS-323) No fixed water connection needed Equivalent Methods/ Reagents Throughput Open instrument (50 methods programmable: Human or open channels) Reagent cooling Primary tubes Sample barcode reader Cuvette wash station Pre-installed and validated methods Name and reputation of Roche ISE (optional) Loading STAT and reagents without opening instrument Clot detection More sample positions (110 vs. 60) Barcoded reagents in pre-filled bottles Master-Curve calibration on reagents 42 reagent cassette positions (vs. 30 bottles on HumaStar) 300 t/h (vs. 200 t/h) photometric 180 t/h ISE Page 63
HS200 vs. Roche Cobas C311 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage Cobas Explanation The main difference is that Cobas C311 is a closed instrument. HumaStar 100/200 are open instruments. No limitations regarding reagents and methods he wants to use. There are three main advantages of HumaStar: -Price of the instrument itself is much lower than C311. -Price of multi-purpose reagents on HumaStar 100/200 is lower than reagents for C311. -No need of a fixed water connection (deionized water)*. -Lower consumption of water. -Lower consumption of energy and takes up less room in the laboratory. Both instruments offers pre-installed and validated methods, which assure reliable results. Roche reagents are ready to use in prefilled and barcode labeled bottles. Handling of reagent bottles and loading of STAT is easier. Throughput of C311 is higher and it can load more reagents (parameters) at the same time. The reputation of Roche is very good. Cobas C311 can benefit most of its advantages an a high throughput laboratory. * Roche also uses water to reconstitute the reagent (high quality necessary) Page 64

HS100 vs. Horiba Pentra C200 Item Advantage Human Advantage Pentra C200 Features Wash Station (vs. disposable cuvettes*) Nbr. reagent positions (30 vs. 15x2* 1 ) Nbr. sample positions (60 vs. 15) Less weight (51 vs. 95 kg) Equivalent Methods/ Reagents Open instrument ISE (optional) Integrated computer and screen Cooled sample tray Fixed cycle (const. throughput) 100 vs. 90 t/h Reagent cooling Intuitive touch screen user software Sample barcode included Shock detection of needle Primary tubes Pre-installed and validated methods Barcoded reagents in pre-filled bottles Pentra C200 has192 cuvettes in stock *1 Reagent cassete with R1 and R2 Page 66
HS100 vs. Horiba Pentra C200 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage Pentra Explanation The main difference is that Pentra is a closed instrument. HumaStar 100/200 are open instruments. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Because Human has also preinstalled and validated methods, Pentra does not have an advantage in that respect. There are two other advantages of HumaStar: -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 15 samples can be placed on Pentra. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -The HumaStar has a wash station, which is much more cost and time efficient than disposable cuvettes on Pentra (for explanation also see Biosystems A15). HumaStar 100 and Pentra both have a constant throughput which is approximately equivalent. Reagent cooling, primary tubes, sample barcode reader, and a shock detector are also present on both instruments. Horiba offers reagents that are ready to use in prefilled and barcode labeled bottles. Handling of reagent bottles is easier. PC and monitor are integrated and do not need to be purchased separately. Page 67
HS100 vs. Horiba Pentra C200 Customer claims Pentra has an separate mixing unit. It should be faster. Because Pentra has disposable cuvettes, there is no carry over in the cuvettes. HumaStar 100/200 have washable cuvettes, which will lead to carry over. Possible reply! Pentra and HS100 both work with a fixed cycle. Thus having a fixed throughput for 1- and 2- shot reagents. HumaStar 100 has a 36 sec. cycle: 1 hour/36 sec. = 100 t/h Pentra C 200 has a 40 sec. cycle: 1 hour/40 sec. = 90 t/h => HS100 is even slightly faster than Pentra C200 The washing procedure of HumaStar 100/200 is so sophisticated that carry over is comparable to disposable cuvettes. There are several measures to assure this: 8- step washing of every single cuvette Normal Systemic and a Special Wash solution are connected to the instrument (most other instrument only have one type of wash solution). A third wash solution Cuvette Clean can be programmed in the methods settings if necessary (e.g. turbidimetry). The intensity of the washing can be increased from 1 (normal) to 4 (extended) in the method settings if necessary. The needle is washed internally and externally. Incompatibilities can be defined in the method settings. This will prevent the consecutive execution of parameters that could influence each other in one cuvette. => In practice carry over is comparable on HumaStar and Pentra. HumaStar has the advantage of lower consumable cost (cuvettes). Page 68
HumaStar 100 BS-120 vs. Page 69
HS100 vs. Mindray BS-120 Item Advantage Human Advantage Mindray Features Equivalent Methods/ Reagents Service Comments Wash Station 60 sample positions (vs. 8) Throughput 100 t/h const. (vs. 100 t/h max) Internal sample barcode reader Made in Europe Intuitive touch screen user software Pre-installed and validated method Reagents and instruments from one source Technical service available in most countries Human offers local trainings Optional ISE Reagent cooling Nbr. reagent positions (30 vs. 28) Page 70
HS200 vs. Mindray BS-120 Advantage HumaStar Explanation There are 5 massive advantages of HumaStar 100. -The wash station saves money and time. Money: BS-120 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test has been run in a cuvette. -HumaStar 100 is much faster than BS-120. The max. throughput of BS-120 is 100 t/h, but the typical throughput will only be at approx. 60 t/h, because it is not constant for 1- and 2-shot methods. -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 8 samples can be placed on BS- 120. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -HumaStar is made in Europe. -HumaStar has pre-installed and validated methods. Users can be sure about the results. On BS- 120 lots of time needs to be spend to reach a precision and performance of parameters as we have on HumaStar 100. Sometimes it will be impossible to reach the performance of HumaStar, because Human has the possibility to adapt the hardware and the software of the instrument to match the reagents. The user in the laboratory does not have this possibility. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. The modern user software of HumaStar is easier to use and offers more features than Mindray. Page 71
HS200 vs. Mindray BS-120 Equivalent Advantage BS-120 Explanation Reagent cooling. Number of reagent position is approximately equivalent. Optional ISE. However HumaStar can measure all electrolytes using chemical reagents. ISE modules often require high maintenance if the number of samples that are measured per day is not sufficient. Page 72

HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 910 Advantage HumaStar Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 200 is the wash station. The wash station saves money and time. Money: respons 910 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Depending on your price per disposable cuvette of respons 910, the price per test can be twice as high as on HumaStar 200. Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test has been run in a cuvette. UPS is included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. HumaStar 200 is an open instruments. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Because Human has also preinstalled and validated methods, respons does not have an advantage in that respect. Reagent refrigeration leads to reliable results, longer on-board and calibration stability. On respons the user either has to place the reagent in the refrigerator after every run, but he will loose time doing this. If he leaves the reagent on the instrument he will waste reagent when it gets warm and he has to throw it away - he is loosing money. Throughput of HumaStar 200 is 50 t/h higher than respons 910. This is difference can make a difference in laboratories with a higher number of samples per day. User can also place 60 samples on HumaStar at the same time. On respons 910 user can only place half of that (30 samples), making HumaStar 200 faster and more suitable if the laboratory has a higher number of samples per day. Page 79
HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 910 Equivalent Advantage respons 910 Explanation DiaSys and Human both offer instruments, reagents, and validated methods out of one hand. DiaSys sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument and are recognized by an internal barcode reader. On respons 910 user can place up to 30 different parameters, each of them can use up to two reagents. On HumaStar the user can place 30 different bottles. If a parameter uses two reagents it will occupy two positions, thus limiting the number of parameters loaded on the instrument. STAT samples can be loaded on respons 910 without opening the cover. On HumaStar 200 the user needs to press pause and wait for approx. 20 seconds before he can open the cover and place the STAT sample. Page 80
HumaStar 200 respons 920 vs. Page 81
HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 920 Item Advantage Human Advantage respons 920 Features Water consumption (2 vs. 7.5 l/h) UPS included (end user value 720) Open instrument Nbr. sample positions (60 vs. 30) Weight (51 vs. 110 kg) Nbr. reagent positions (30 vs. 30x2) Optional ISE module Constant throughput of 200 t/h Equivalent Methods/ Reagents Cuvette wash station Reagent refrigeration European origin Methods validated One supplier for reagent and instrument Pre-filled in respons reagent bottles (vs. MPR) Internal reagent barcode reader Page 82
HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 920 Advantage HumaStar Explanation HumaStar 200 is an open instruments. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Users might be limited using respons 920, if they want to measure parameters that are not available from Diasys or reagents cannot be supplied on time. Because Human has also pre-installed and validated methods for its Multi Purpose Reagents, respons does not have an advantage in that respect. User can place 60 samples on HumaStar at the same time. On respons 920 user can only place half of that (30 samples), making HumaStar 200 more suitable if the laboratory has a high number of samples per day. HumaStar 200 is slightly smaller and its weight is only half the weight of respons 920. The water consumption of HumaStar 200 is much lower (< 2 l/h) than the water consumption of respons 920 (< 7.5 l/h) Page 83
HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 920 Equivalent Advantage respons 920 Explanation HumaStar 200 and respons 920 are very similar instruments. Human and DiaSys both supply instrument and validated reagents out of one hand. Thus the user can be sure, to get reliable results. Both instruments have a cuvette wash station and reagent cooling. Both instruments are of European origin, thus having a good reputation in the market. Respons 920 has an optional ISE module for Na, K, Cl, Li. Page 84

HS200 vs. Biosystems A25 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage A25 Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 200 is the wash station. The wash station saves money and time. Money: A25 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test has been run in a cuvette. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. The modern user software of HumaStar is easier to use and more intuitive (see screen shots on next slide). Biosystems and Human both offer instruments, reagents, and validated methods out of one hand. Number of samples and reagents are approximately equivalent. On HumaStar you can place primary tubes up to 16 mm, on A25 you can place primary tubes up to 15 mm. Biosystems sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument. Throughput of A25 is 20% higher than HumaStar 200. However, in routine use this difference will not be noticed by the user. Page 87

HS200 vs. FUJIFILM NX 500 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage NX 500 Explanation -The HumaStar is an instrument suited for a central or hospital laboratory. It can load and run up to 60 samples at once. NX 500 can only run one sample at a time. NX 500 is a designated POCT instrument for physician s offices or similar operation areas which run only very few samples. HumaStar also has an internal sample barcode reader, NX 500 only has an optional handheld scanner. -Price per test is much lower on HumaStar than on NX 500. NX 500 is optimized for easy operation, not for low cost or higher throughput. On NX 500 disposable consumables are used for plasma separation and pipetting (-> waste and cost). -HumaStar comes with more pre-installed parameters than NX 500. Some parameters, such as HbA1c are not available on NX 500. HumaStar is also an open system, you can use most clinical chemistry reagents that are available on the market. On NX500 you can only run the dry reagent slides which are provided by Fujifilm. -Easy operation: No on-site calibration necessary, no centrifugation of sample necessary. -Small footprint and low weight: Integrated computer and thermal printer. HS200 vs. Diatron Pictus 200 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage Pictus 200 Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 200 is the wash station. The wash station saves money and time. Money: Pictus 200 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Depending on your price per disposable cuvette of Pictus 200, the price per test can be twice as high as on HumaStar 200. Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary on Pictus 200 after a test has been run in a cuvette. UPS is included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. Reagent refrigeration leads to reliable results, longer on-board and calibration stability. On Pictus 200 the user either has to place the reagent in the refrigerator after every run, but he will loose time doing this. If he leaves the reagent on the instrument he will waste reagent when it gets warm and he has to throw it away - he is loosing money. The throughput of both instruments is identical. Both instruments are of European origin. Both instruments offer validated applications for their reagents. -Users can load more reagents on board. (However these reagents must not stay on Pictus 200 for a long time, because it is not cooling the reagents.) Page 100

HS200 vs. Logotech ISE Miura 200 Advantage HumaStar Explanation UPS is included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. Sample barcode reader is included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. HumaStar 200 is more flexible in the type of reagent bottles you can use. You can use up to 4 different reagent containers (low dead volume = less reagent is wasted). HumaStar 200 is more flexible in the type of sample tubes/cups you can use. On HumaStar 200 you have the choice between two different and extractable sample trays. You can also use 4 different sample tubes or cups and tubes up to 16mm diameter. On HumaStar 200 you have internal AND external needle wash, minimizing shifted results due to needle carry-over. HumaStar consumes less water than the Miura 200. Imagine you have calibrated your instrument and you have finished running your patient tests. Then you find out that the calibration was not valid. On most instruments (including Miura 200) you would have to run all tests again. On HumaStar 200 you can just repeat the calibration and the recalculate all patient tests using the valid calibration. Thus your are saving a lot of reagent and time. On HumaStar 200 electronic and hydraulic components are strictly separated. If there is a leakage in the hydraulics, the electronic components are protected from being destroyed by the water. Page 104
HS200 vs. Logotech ISE Miura 200 Equivalent Advantage Miura 200 Explanation HumaStar 200 and Miura 200 are two very similar instruments. Some components are even shared by both instruments. Both instruments are of European origin. Both instruments offer validated applications for their reagents. Both instruments have a cuvette wash station and reagent refrigeration. Photometric (without ISE) test throughput is 200 tests per hour on both instruments. Users can load more reagents on board. (However on HumaStar 200 it is possible to work with multiple extractable reagent trays.) There is an optional ISE module for Na, K, Cl, Li available. (However Na, K, Cl are available for HS200 as liquid reagents.) There are an optional internal reagent barcode reader and barcoded reagents available. Higher test throughput if ISE is included.
