Different Ecosystems forest A region of land that is covered with many trees and shrubs. tropical jungle (rainforest) swamp A region with dense trees and a variety of plant life. It has a tropical climate. Found in the areas surrounding the equator. It rains up to 100 A wetland area with trees and plants. The ground is low and is always wet. It s like a flooded forest. marsh A wetland region without trees. prairie A grassland region of land with tall grass and few trees. Found in central North America and Europe. Most are used for farming. A grassland region with scattered trees. savanna pampas Located in central Africa and parts of India. The climate is tropical with a wet season and a long hot dry season. A grassland region with no trees. Found in South America. It is used by ranchers for grazing cattle.

desert An arid (dry) region of land with few to no plants. There is low precipitation. It rains less than 10 steppe A semi-arid (dry) region of land with has few plants, shrubs and some grass. There is low precipitation. It rains less than 20 highlands A mountainous region with cool or colder temperatures year around due to higher elevations. In higher elevations, there is a timberline where no trees grow. A cold region with huge evergreen forests and plant life in the summer. sub-arctic Cool to mild summer. Severe cold and bitter winter. Found just below the Arctic Circle. tundra A cold region with treeless plains. It has permafrost soil and few plants. Found in the Arctic areas. Climate is cold, dry and harsh all year. Soil thaws in summer and sturdy grass, small bushes and wildflowers grow. A cold region covered with snow and ice all year with no plants or vegetation. Areas located in the Arctic and Antarctic near the poles. Climate is bitterly cold all year.

Different Climate desert An arid (dry) region with low precipitation. It rains less than 10 There are few to no plants due to lack of water all year. steppe A semi-arid (dry) region with low precipitation. It rains less than 20 There are few plants, shrubs and some grass. highlands A mountainous region with cool or colder temperatures year around due to higher elevations. In higher elevations, there is a timberline where no trees grow. sub-arctic A cold region with huge evergreen forests and plant life in summer. Cool to mild summer. Severe cold and bitter winter. Found just below the Arctic Circle. North regions -Few people live here. tundra Regions with a climate that is cold, dry and harsh all year. It has permafrost soil and few plants no trees. Found in the Arctic areas. Soil thaws in summer and sturdy grass, small bushes and wildflowers grow. A cold region covered with snow and ice all year with no plants or vegetation. Bitterly cold all year. Areas located in the Arctic and Antarctic- Polar Regions

Humid Continental Regions with short warm/hot summers and long cold snowy winters. There are coniferous and deciduous trees Found in the middle latitudes zones. Moderate/ Sub-Tropical/ Temperate Regions with warm summers and short mild rainy winters. There are deciduous, and palm trees and cactus. Found in middle latitude zones. Tropical Wet (Rainforest) Regions with a humid (hot/wet) climate all year. It rains up to 100 Found in the areas that borders the equator. Tropical Wet and Dry (Savanna) Marine West Coast Regions with a wet season for most of the year, then a few months are hot/dry season. Found in Africa and India that border the equator. Regions where the oceans cause cool summers and rainy mild winters. Usually found on the west coast of a continent. Mediterranean Regions, with hot dry summers and mild rainy winters. Found in places bordering the Mediterranean Sea like southern Europe, Lebanon, and northern areas of Africa.
