Block 48/05 - Malay-Tho Chu-Phu Quoc Basin Block 48/05: Area : 4,260 sq. km Sea level: 50 m Seismic : 2,311 km 2D seismic HC Potential for and Mesozoic structural traps The Malay is a NW-SE trending asymmetric feature, 500 km long and 200 km wide, with a steep southwestern margin and more than 8,000 meters of Tertiary fill. The origin of this is related to major Paleogene plate tectonic movements which led to the collision of India with Eurasia and the resultant opening of the South China and Andaman seas. The SW VietNam offshore is located in NE flank of MaLay. Basin Proven petroleum containing oil and gas fields/discoveries in Oligocene lacustrine organic mater and mixture of lacustrine and terrestrial organic material, oil prone generation. Lower Miocene source rocks are mainly gas prone with minor oil potential; they contain mainly kerogen type III and a mixture of type I & III.
