Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve In the event of threatening weather, students planning to attend should call (909) 869-4055 between 6:30 am and 7:30 am, and listen to the recorded message. Students who request credit for a field trip that has been cancelled (as indicated on the recorded message) will be assigned a score of -50 (negative fifty) for the trip. The submission of a list of bird species seen is considered a request for credit. Regardless of the contents of this message, if you encounter hazardous driving conditions, do NOT continue on the trip, as it may be cancelled anyway. We will meet at the reserve at 0800. DIRECTIONS: From Cal Poly, take the Orange Freeway (CA 57) south to the Garden Grove Freeway (CA 22). Take the Garden Grove Freeway west and exit at either Beach Blvd., or onto Golden West St. Proceed south to the Pacific Coast Highway (CA 1). Turn right on PCH and go northwest to the reserve. The entrance to the reserve will be a right turn. The entrance is near a stoplight located at an entrance to Bolsa Chica State Beach. See map (next page). **There is a parking lot for the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve located at the intersection of Warner Ave. and PCH. Do NOT go here or you will miss us. We will be in the parking lot about a mile down (south) from the corner of PCH and Warner Ave. **Try not to approach the reserve from the northwest. It may be difficult to do a left turn into the reserve. **BE ALERT FOR FOG NEAR THE COAST. This trip will be cancelled in the event of adverse weather. **It is likely to be cooler near the coast than at Cal Poly, so be prepared.

We will assemble at 0800 in the parking lot of the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. DIRECTIONS: From Cal Poly, take the San Bernardino Freeway east about 80 miles to the exit for Highway 62. Take Hwy. 62 north about 12 miles until you come to the road (East Drive) marked with a sign directing you to Covington Park and the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Follow the short road to the Preserve. See map (next page). **There is no camping at either Big Morongo Canyon Preserve or Covington Park. **In the event of high winds and/or flash flood warnings for the desert, this trip will be cancelled. **This can be a wet and muddy trip! Extra shoes/clothing is highly recommended. We may be walking through shallow, muddy water at some places. **Although it should warm up later in the morning, it may be rather cold (40 degrees F) early, so bring warm clothes. **Watch your gasoline supply. Get gas at Banning or the outlet mall at Cabazon if you need it.

RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANICAL GARDENS In the event of threatening weather, students planning to attend should call (909) 869-4055 between 6:30 am and 7:30 am, and listen to the recorded message. Students who request credit for a field trip that has been cancelled (as indicated on the recorded message) will be assigned a score of -50 (negative fifty) for the trip. The submission of a list of bird species seen is considered a request for credit. We will assemble at the Gardens at 8:15 am - do not come early as the gate into the parking lot is not unlocked until 8:00. (NOTE: this time may be changed depending on the opening time of the Gardens - watch for announcements in class!) DIRECTIONS: Take the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) east to Claremont and exit at Indian Hill Blvd. Proceed north on Indian Hill to Foothill Blvd. Turn right on Foothill and proceed east about 0.25 mile and turn left into the driveway into the Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are north of Foothill Blvd. **This trip will be cancelled in the event of adverse weather.
